I thought all that mattered was BC? Now it's SD? I'll have to read up on some articles from gun writers to discover the truth.![]()
Or load some 180s in the '06 and go huntin'.

A 300 gr .338 has an SD of .375 and the 190/7mm has a SD of .336, not bad, but its not a 300/.338.
Been coyote hunting with 257 Wby and 100 gr TSX, which has a terrible BC and SD, maybe I should limit myself to fox under 100 yards.![]()
100 yards is stretching it with that bullet. Maybe 80 would be a more sensible limit?
I was out playing with a .243AI and the 105gr AM, which is superior to either the 7Mag or .300Mag for elk. You should look into it.
BC only matters when there's wind, or when impact velocity may be questionable. My longest shot on a critter was made with a .257" 100gr MK. Look up the BC and SD on that one and tell me that the 7 and .300 are poor choices.

If I have to hear one more thing about quarter bores or .338's in a 7mm VS. .300 thread...I swear to god....
You guys are all thread-jackers....
Now, about those Dell keyboards...
Thanks, but I'll stick to the mono-metal bullets for the Wby, it's got a little too much zip for the paper punching disintegrators.
And I've always hated the 7mmRM for absolutely no good reason whatsoever, hence I shoot a 280 AI.![]()
The trouble is that when that lil 7mm bullet finally get to where its going, its still just a light, small diameter, pill moving slowly, where as a 300 gr .338 Lapua will actually do something upon arrival.
Fortunately I've put enough 7mm holes in things to know better.
300 Win-Mag is more powerfull than 7mm-Mag upto 1200m effective range. If you load it right, you could push it to 1500m.

I guess the elk I took with one shot (bang-flop) from my 260 Rem and 130 grain TSX doesn't count then?
WTF! Is this about hunting or target? Who tries to take a shot at game at 1500M??!!

I like the 6.5s, and I'm willing to bet that when you shot your elk, the range was such that the velocity of that bullet was still well over 2000 fps. The criticism was directed to those who intended to shoot their elk at extremely long ranges, and rather than using excellent game bullets like the TSX they use match bullets or Berger’s pretend game bullets.
