Looks like I'm still on for this year's trip to the Yukon, what sort of firearms do you guys carry in the bush? I'm not really hunting, I just don't know what animals I might encounter and since I'll be by myself I'd rather be prepared for worst case scenario. I guess the name of this thread should be best gun for grizzly defense?

depending where you are going but the .366 wagner is a very good option, this time of the year it is starting to be bear hunting and any rifle you have in the hand will work.
not far from whitehorse you may worried more about bison that grizzly and again the .366 wagner with 320 grains in rn woodleigh will be a very good options for sure.
they re way better options believe it or not.
“Hunting” has its own considerations to address, but if it’s “carrying around just in case” I think something short(er), light(ish) and versatile. I personally carry a short barrelled shotgun just about everywhere I go. Pump, magfed and O/U all have their places.

I'd say a STAG 10, but apparently (and ironically) only Conservation Officers are allowed to protect themselves from the very same things that are lurking in the bush for everyone else.... makes me go hmmm

A 45/70 in a lever gun with modern ammunition is pretty good for a light weight rifle. There are pump 12 gauges that might be lighter, but I trust my 45/70 more than slugs.
in that case i do agree the 12 ga is the very good solution.

I have a hatsan escort with a birds head grip and some skate tape on important surfaces. it comes in at 26.75" over all with a 14" barrel. For what it can hold it is the most compact powerful thing I can legally carry. If I'm in an area I am concerned about, I've got a .375 H&H Sako that can solve problems.
I have a young family and we like to go camping, sometimes where bears also are but it's never been the kind of problem to shoot one over. I have worked up north though and know that they can be a hassle.
