Yes you are right of course. There is always an off chance, so I guess i'm taking a calculated risk. From what I've been told, the signature dramatically reduces the chance of something happening because it introduces more direct accountability and insurance does not cover what most think it does.

I have shipped a tonne of them and they have all been shipped expidited or express with canada post with a signature in a wrapped box with nothing to indicate what is inside as nobody needs to know including canadapost!! i have had zero issues this way not one problem
Not true....I always ship with insurance,tracking number and signature required. I shipped out a $700.00 NR rifle and it got lost. Had I not had insurance I would have been out $700.00. It took about three weeks to get my money from Canada Post after I initiated the claim.
Also I would suggest packing it really well! I always try to over pack and tape it up that it covers pretty all the surface area. If the packaging rips much higher chance of it getting stolen IMO.
Once I bought a pistol and apartment superintendent signed for my package (good people so I don't mind, saves me the trip) but my jaw half dropped when the super handed me a blue Sig Sauer case with a small address sticker and some tape on a handle a few years back.

They sure do. And lockable cases for those handguns that came in factory cardboard.
only people with a venture one account with canada post can ship expedited as far as i know.
everyone else would ship regular parcel or xpresspost.

I use a generic box (amazon box usually) full of paper balls or some type of filler to make sure nothing moves around inside. I completely cover the box in clear packing tape... like 'waterproof' covered in tape. I write the address in big letters on a piece of paper and then completely cover that in clear tape as well. I always ship 'signature required'. Insurance is up to the buyer.
And why is that so?
I send everything insured, because it is my responsibility to make sure the buyer gets what he paid for, and if he doesn't get it, he gets his money back. I expect the same from ANY seller.

I guess because no one has asked me to ship it insured yet. I haven't had to go through a claim yet, so I suppose I don't know how much of a pain it could be dealing with an uninsured package.
I wouldn't deny someone if they wanted it, but it would be included in the shipping cost I quote them.
They do exist and I even gave references in my post. Do what you want, but I don't think its responsible to provide advise that is has the potential to have legal consequences for those that would follow it.
The chance of running into problems is remote, but why pick and choose what laws to obey? Why get a STATT to the post office if your just going to break the next law involved anyway?
