Best Milsurp rifle for SHTF

I wouldnt kick start my cocking handle, especially the extended one. Butt to the ground, also referred as "motaring the rifle" works good for this scenario :p

Thats the way I do it too :) But not every troopaloop gets the memo :p

If it was me, my family and everything went Mad Max Road Warrior?? M-N with PU scope for long range, SKS for intermediate, P-38 for self defense, Winchester pump action model 62a .22 for small game,Winchester 12 gauge for fowl. I'm no superhero and I have no dreams of being a one man militia - in a situation like that, I see firearms as survival tools, same as a good ax, flint or compass. In my opinion, The Big Thing about a serious SHTF situation is to protect your loved ones, keep them healthy, fed and safe as well as remain as adaptable as possible to a changing situation. The above choices nicely cover all the bases for defense/survival and all have been proven over time to be robust, durable designs that are easy to strip, clean and maintain with minimal to no tools required. I feel that ease of field maintenance should be a major factor - you could find yourself living in the bush or a devastated suburban environment and odds are pretty good at some point your commercial cleaners/lubricant supply will run out and you will not have access to your workbench, tools and cleaning supplies, so you are going to have to be creative. These designs have proven themselves in the field that they can take some neglect and still work. Another advantage is that they all require minimal training to use by someone with little or no experience handling firearms, should you find the need to do so. Just my two cents, I hope Canada never comes to that point.

C7 never failed me while it was issued to me.. Really think ppl that have problems with Ar platforms is either really crappy guns.. But even the cheap ones seem to work well or just a total lack of proper maintenance.. There is a reason it is the go to rifle for several militaries of the world

I'm just going to say this.
Mosin Nagant.
Will Digest,
besides 7.62x54R
30-30 and 308 and any ammo that has close dimensions to 308. One thing is you need cleaning rod to poke empties out. as the extractor has nothing to grab on 308 case.
I want to see if Lee Enfield handle that ?

Ability to fire different caliber ammo is very important in SHTF scenarios in my opinion.

To much?

It's a tough call for sure. Reliability versus availability. Would I trust my AR with my life? Hell no! They're pieces of crap! However, there's a ton of them and ammo available. It's a difficult decision for sure.

Cannon

Definitely don't agree with the AR-15 being crap. I voted SKS but an AR 15 is very close behind. Mine is rock solid reliable but the SKS gets the nod because it has the bayonet and makes a better club if you run out of ammo. We are talking SHTF here.

X2 on the bayonet requirement for this situation.

Round here if I were to pick a milsurp in a shtf moment it would either be my no.4 LB or mosin, with my tt33 on my hip. Both rifles would not fail to put food on the table and the tt33 would be for two legged encounters up close. If it wasn't a milsurp firearm I had to choose it would be my Fabarm and my M&P, I love the versatility of a 12g and my M&P has been nothing but reliable and acurate from the get go.

it's kind of funny...if SHTF then my 'surps might be worth more than I paid for them, but why would would I pick one of my surps??? lol even in the Armageddon their worth in history is more than actually shooting them!(quick jab at the purists)...

If you're really worried about the future stockpile lead, primers, powder and saving your brass might save your a$$.
-silver for werewoves
-garlic/holywater for vamps
-roasries for protestants...pamphlets for backup
-common sense for politicians
-an appreciation for no matter how bad-a$$ you are a 50lb bag of potatoes will get you laid, water, and a place to hide for much longer than any gun you tote will!

I'm trying to envision the real SHTF situation some are referring to and preparing for.

Use of a firearm for self defence is going to be the most serious and costly battle anyone ever fought. Your life will never be the same again.

If it's the Zombie Apocalypse, firepower will be paramount so mag capacity will be essential.

I see your BBAM75 and raise you a Puckle. The ability to swap between round projectiles and square projectiles (for use only against heathens) is a must for the modern SHTF scenario.

Didn't Ian from forgotten weapons have one he reviewed?

Mosin and SKS, excellent for hunting, reliable, low monetary value, a lifetime supply of ammo is easy to come by. The rest will be sold to buy beans.
