Best place to get an AR?

Personally I am not a fan of the $529-$599 types of sales going on right now for entry level AR15s.

Who knows, say best-case-scenario they actually aren't downright garbage, and they may actually may be semi-reliable, why would you want the absolute worst possible quality product that you can buy? I'm not saying you need to spend $4,000 to have a red "HK" stamp on your rifle that people at the range will see and assume you are a true man, but at least spend $1,000 or so for an acceptably entry from something like Sig.

Best-case scenario in the law of diminishing returns is to get to the $1,500 level so you can buy something from Daniel Defense, which is IMO the best level of quality and reliability you are going to get while not wasting any money. At the $1,500 mark, you're getting the best components, but not actually wasting money.

Got a DD MK18 for the reputation, got a Marstar AR for the price... JP.

Why should you be a fan of a ar for $500? Maybe because it has allowed a lot of people who likely would not have bought one to go out and get one. Increasing the number of restricteds is the best chance we have at keeping them. Also not everyone considers shooting as their primary hobby/passion and to be able to get a AR for those prices is a great thing for Canadians. They have been out for a few years and you won't find many complaints about them, minus the finish, but there made to be used, not admired through glass.

Thus the reason I purchased the Norc CQ.

I just wanna make sure, the Norinco is chambered in 5.56 right? Not .223? If I want quad rail, Dominion Arms for $700 is a good deal? Sorry I don't know how much quad rails are. But what if I want a longer forend? Something that extends almost right to the tip?

Yeah its 556
Isn't it $599? That's a good deal.

If you want a longer rail you will either need to cut down the Fsb to fit under it or take it off and put a low profile gas block on it.
Or perhaps the best is to get a longer rail that has the cut out for the fsb.

If you're going to swap out the rail anyway, it might be better to buy the norc from Marstar for $529 that doesn't come with one to begin with.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking now. Because I don't only want a quad rail, I'd like a quad rail that extends further. I just got off the phone with Marstar and the guy couldn't really tell me what gas system length it has but the forend grip is 7 inches long so I guess that would be carbine length. The barrel is 14.5 inches long so if I wanted a quad rail that extends all the way to the flash hider, I would probably need a 12 - 13 inch forend? I don't know what lengths are available in the market. I just watched a video from Brownells on how to install a free float and it doesn't seem too hard. This would be my first firearm so bear that in mind for reference. I've read about getting low profile gas blocks etc, I will have to look into that. Could be easier if I kept the fixed front sight and get a rail with a cutout, but I am not too crazy about that look but if there is an advantage with that set up in terms of function, I would consider going that route. I think I read somewhere that Larry Vickers said his favored set up is having a fixed front sight with a light on 12 o'clock. I'm thinking it might be easier to just have a rear flip up sight so that if the optic fails, you only have one sight to flip up, that might be the rationale. Anyway, going back on topic, even if I left the front sight where it is, it seems that it's still too far from the end of the muzzle if I got a rail with a cutout and seems that it would look weird.

I just realized that too.. thanks.. I will have to do more research on the reliability and durability of the Norinco..

I've fired over 2000 rounds out of my Norinco M4 and the only stoppages I get are bolt fully to the rear (empty).
Check out Zahal.org for all kinds of fore end/butt stock upgrades to customize it into whatever you need/want.

Have you shot any of the Tula ammo and/or norinco from it? I ordered a crate of Norinco, close to ordering a crate of Tula as well..... ??

Daniel Defense does make some rails with cut outs to allow for using fixed front sight gas blocks.

I can't think of any others off the top of my head, but I would imagine there are some other options.

One thing you could do is get a low profile gas block that fits under the rail, get a 12 or 13" rail, and then mount a fixed front sight on it.

There's almost infinite choices for an AR.

For those of you who own one of the Norinco CQAs - how is the extractor on the brass? Does it leave much of a dent like the one in the T97 does or is the brass still good for re-loading?

That price makes it very tempting, but I gotta be able to re-load for it.

If your not against travelling to red deer, the red deer shooting center has a large selection of knights, DD, noveske, vltor and I believe there was some Troy & NEA stuff. I just bought parts to make an afghan upper and going back to do a diplomat upper. Has .223 and 300blkout gear. Try out their top notch facility while your there. By far the nicest & spacious indoor range I've been to.

I don't like how they require a gun range membership before they will sell you a restricted. AFAIK, that isn't in the law. They should leave that BS with the CFOs.

CFO will not approve the sales transfer without a range membership.
The man to talk to at P&D is Scott. He is by far and wide the most knowledgeable person they have on staff. He also runs the Service Rifle & Pistol leage at CHAS. He's at the monthly meetings. You can find him there every day they're open except thursday.

I have yet to call or go down to Milarm to check out their inventory.
I was there today, and they carry Remington, DPMS, Bushmaster and I think I saw a Nork there too.

Yeah, that's where I got the idea from too. I remember that DD had those and I remember thinking at first why they sold ARs looking like those as they looked so weird..now I get it. lol
