Best polymer .45 ACP?

ha:

Just get the G21sf, a 24lb recoil spring, some 45 Super Brass, a little Power Pistol and your choice of 230gr JHPs. If the 45 caliber hole at 10mm speeds is what you're after, you've found it. 1100 FPS is going to be my target velocity, when the aftermarket barrel shows up, but 1200 is supposedly possible.
This is likely what you're looking for. I know it's what I'm looking for, and I've only seen Polar bears and Grizzlies at the zoo.

This ^^^ :D

Unfortunately I seen polar bears and grizzlies, and black bears in person. I will be working ring of fire, pretty much polar bear territory. I see black ones at least a few times a month around Thunder Bay. this is all just in case when I encounter the aggressive one like my friend.

I would take a hard look at the HK p30 in 357 sig calibre, check the ballistics on the sig 357, in real world applications its the one I would trust my life to in your situation and in an HK. 10mm should also not be over looked for me though it would be the 357 sig. You can get the right ammo, although is scarce on shelves, dealers can easily get what you need.

When using a 45ACP for wilderness carry in grizzly country, it is imperative to keep track of your shots. Be sure to save the last one for yourself. It's not pretty being mauled by a griz, especially during mating season. Hi-Point .45-32oz. I wouldn't be caught dead with one.

The P30 doesn't come in .357 Sig. Just 9mm and .40 S&W. I don't think any HK pistols come in .357 Sig, for that matter.

If you're still stuck on a polymer frame, then go with a glock 21. You will therefore be able to stay true to your obvious love of the .45acp, but with two small orders, one to storm lake for a barrel and one to rockyourglock.com for mags you now have the bear shredding power of the 10mm in mere seconds! I donno, went this route for sheer ease of interchangeability and i now have a frame that I love and two calibers to enjoy simultaneously! Just my two cents, but i would trust my life to a hot enough to f*** 10mm auto cartridge over a subsonic .45acp ANYDAY!

I dunno if civi's can get it, but if you can get the AP ammo for 10MM it WOULD do what needs to be done on any grizzly, and in a hurry. Your wilderness carry permit might allow you to buy such ammo. Really, listen to some of the wisdom on this thread. Bear defence is not range shooting and the 1911 in 45 is the best range gun in the world, but man its' not a great bear caliber at all.

A quality cast, JHP or FMJ bullet will do just fine... I have yet to see a bear wearing body armor.

So now it is polar bears and grizzlies???

You do realize that most guides who work in places where grizzlies, or polar bears might be an issue, are carrying either 12 guages with slugs, or Big bore rifles right?

How even a 10mm compares to the ballistics of either is practically a joke.

Trekstor I realize you don't like what I have to say, because it goes against a preconceived notion you had, but the bottom line is I don't think you will find too many experienced guys that would recommend a 10mm when Grizzlies and Polar bears are concerned.

One of the members here who has an ATC used to carry one though, but was told that they would no longer approve a semi auto for an ATC gun I believe. Not sure if it was "camp cook" or "boomer" but I believe it was one of them. This is why I metioned earlier that semi auto's were not being approved.

My opinion and from what I have read the opinion of most is that a 10mm is a minimum, but a magnum revolver is a better option, but for the most part a handgun round in general is not ideal.

I would be picking up a Ruger Alaskan in .375 Ruger if I ever found myself in Grizz or Polar bear territory and not worrying about a handgun in the first place.

In the end though it's your funeral.

A quote from a thread on the subject, from a guy who loves a 10mm but does not trust it to kill a cow quickly without the perfect head shot, let alone a Grizz or PB. And his first hand knowledge of the matter is enough for me.

From time to time I have to put a heifer or some other critter down due to injury or other.

I have carried a 10mm for years. IF I can get a clear, standing head shot where I can place the round precisely, I will shoot it with the 10mm.

I would not for any reason use it if I could not get that shot. Sadly, I learned a long time ago that the 10mm does not have the power to kill an 800 pound bovine cleanly or mercifully with a shot to the body.

I have a great respect for the 10mm, but I"m not sure I am a good enough shot to hit a bear exactly where I would want to, and I ain't too keen on that critter givin' me a 1911 suppository.

Armchair rambos, the AP 10mm would be what I would use for grizzly or polar bear defence, if you had the chance to see the results of what it does to different materials you wouldn't be laughing and you would trust it as a certain bear defense round

f:P: Bears are not made of Kevlar, Spectra, steel or any other material other than flesh and bone. Most AP designs I can think of would be at a disadvantage, not to mention ALL designs are prohib. Put down your Xbox controller and join us here in the real world...
