Bill C-21 Passed in Senate - What now?

There is a lot of misinformation that some are spreading here. Vast majority of International students only spend money in this country including tuitions a few times of that of Canadians, and living expenses. They are not allowed to earn income. Few receive grants or any type of supports from professors or institutions, as claimed by some here. Most international students spend $50k plus annually to survive. They pay taxes like any others. As for immigrants, not all immigrants receive government assistance. Many have to invest in Canada to become accepted. Minimum amounts for Chinese, for example, were $400k in Ontario and more in Quebec. This was the required amounts over 10 years ago. It may have been increased now. Other type of immigrants include trained professionals or skilled workers. To say that immigrants do not contribute to Canada is not only hurtful, but also not true.

Thank you sir. My reaction to IvoB (post#32) might have stirred the pot a little bit for him and his anti immigration buddies but has forgotten that immigration has a very minor effect on this. The real problem here is a unjust liberal authoritarian government that has been passing laws that have eroded basic Canadian values. This government was elected due to an unjust and flawed electoral system that is considered a Single-member plurality or “first past-the-post” voting system.

The Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) is a contribution program through which the Government of Canada provides assistance for resettled refugees to establish themselves in their new home. The program has two main components: income support and a range of immediate essential services.

I hope you are not confusing immigrants to refugees my good sir. There is a huge difference between the two.

Neither is this. They are restricted as to how much they can earn (hours they can work), and the federal government just further restricted that amount, for reasons I'll leave to your imagination.

We had affordable housing before the flood gates were opened under JT
So everyone who thinks a family of 8 people arriving from another country is going to contribute to the country or take resources away from everyone else? We tend to forget that the first wave of immigrants got subsidized housing and a monthly amount for each child they had. WE PAID FOR THIS folks

I would have to call this a CONJECTURE, when I arrive here as an immigrant I needed to show a proof that I could support myself and my family ( wife and 2 children ). We were required a minimum of $10000 for each of us , we rented a whole house prior to our arrival and purchased a vehicle the next day after arriving. Between me and my wife, we paid $70000 in taxes that year and has not claimed a monthly amount for our kids, we believe in hard work and not on dole out.

Immigrants are completely different from refugees sir, please check on it.

This forum is about a common passion that we all have, one that is part of Canadian culture but is being threatened by a unjust government. Let us all focused on finding and lobbying for ways to protecting it .

And I’ll call this another conjecture. Most immigrants work 2 or 3 jobs to make both ends meet. The more work people do, the better it is for the government. More work then higher taxes, simple as that.

Where are you from originally?
Because the I've noticed the people coming here seem to just be pillaging, as they're essentially stealing food from food banks and government handouts that people desperately need here. Look no further than "how to get free food in Canada." On YouTube.

What ever would we do without the essential tim Hortons and McDonald's employees who can't seem to ever get an order right, let alone speak English. Maybe our tax dollars should go towards public service announcements about the wonderful discovery of DEODORANT, lol. Assimilate or go back

The anti-immigrant agenda hijacked this thread, which was about the unjust attack of this government on lawful gunowners. There is no corralation between immigration and this gun law. Let's return to the real issue.

I’m originally from the south of the Philippines, hence my handle name Chavacano. I don’t disagree with you on that but that’s not the majority of immigrants. One thing that is quite common for most of us here is we or our ancestors are immigrants into this country as well. The aboriginal population, have been here for thousands of years. There is also a huge difference between immigrants and refugees. Immigrants come here on their own expenses, they have to prove that they could support themselves or their family upon arrival. Essentially you need to come prepared financially and evidence to prove otherwise. Refugee/asylum seekers are a different story, most of them are coming here as they were forced to flee from their countries of origin, without any financial capacity majority of times. I believe they are not screened thoroughly and criminals ride along with them.

I really don't understand the fixation on bringing in so many people from elsewhere that our cities are swelling past the bursting point, where housing, decent services, and reasonable food prices are a foregone conclusion for many younger folks I know. Not to mention, I've watched all the green space in my old city disappear, and subdivisions pop up where there was once forest and farmland. It's not racist to say that we need to seriously pump the brakes on immigration. Canada doesn't need a population of 100 million, and North American society is already dangerously fractured as it is, with all the political, religious, and cultural divides growing by the day. It's becoming clear that the model of growth for the sake of it is unsustainable for both human society and the environment in which we live.

Do you really believe Trudeau cares about a letter or a petition? Really! You surely can't be serious. He has coalition that is solid and he cares about as much about a petition as he does about the expert opinions offered up that have testified that his C21 will not have any effect on crime yet he passes it anyway. The ONLY thing that will get us out of this mess is to kick Trudeau down the road and elect a Conservative Gov't and hope Pierre will keep his word. Failing that welcome to the long term affects of C21. There is no moral high ground to anyone for signing a petition or not. None have any affect so far and none will in the future with Trudeau.

There is nothing more persistent than a Liberal with a bad idea. Remember that and you will die a happy man.

Obviously , you do not know Trudeau very well . Trudeau views himself as a God who was put on earth to lead Canada indefinitely. Trudeau hates petitions as he hates to be criticized ; and he is famous among his own staff , and Liberal MPs , for throwing hissy fits when he faces criticism . If you think that Trudeau doesn't care about petitions , you would be wrong as he practically had a full on meltdown when someone threw some small pebbles at him during an election campaign stop because he actually believes that he is loved as a God by Canadians . Even comments on the CBC website mentioning Trudeau's name in a disparaging way are being censored and eliminated .

They're all UN soldiers, just funny they happen to all be Military aged males mostly single

Can someone just give me the bulletin points of this law? Are they now buying back handguns? What’s happening with the magazines? Etc

Relax and breath through your nose. The feds brought this on themselves. Let them and their sixteen compensated focus groups, communications strategists, media buyers, and graphic artists summarize a complex and controversial law first. The community can't be held to account for something which has not been made 'knowable'. If they expect the community to do their work, we're not going to make it easy!

As for magazines, that seems to be the next progression in the long game of constantly notching up the anxiety. Until you see the feds tell you what is required, don't respond. Call me thick and dull-witted, but I don't understand what the Minister was trying to say on Twitter. That is as authoritative as a, 'Have a good time, call' phone number on a bathroom stall. Simply carry on as before.

From the hills of Kentucky and American Far Right comes Conspiracy theory 1,666. Not very original. The infamous UN ARMY coming to take the US and Canada over.

MIDNIGHT RIDER:To the suggestion that I don't know Trudeau I concede I have never met the man. He may well hate petitions but I have seen no evidence that petitions have had any affect on his actions.

Go back to school ...the refugees make up a tiny portion of the immigration. I bet you you’re first or second generation of immigrants given your internet warrior name. What do you do for a living ? Let us know how much you contribute to this economy?
Immigration is a business transaction, put that in your tiny little head! You’re not doing anyone a favour, people come here and contribute A LOT TO THIS ECONOMY WITH THE GOUVERNEMENT NOT HAVING PAID A PENNY TO RAISE THEM AND EDUCATE THEM. Most immigrants have more education than the average joe here.
