Black/green rifles to be prohibited soon???

The only federal law currently before the house is the CPC's bill to amend the firearms act to remove the registry requirements.

Just to be clear, I am not trying to spread that unverified probably false piece of news. I was just asking if anyone heard about it. I have to live without a 12-6, I want to grab everything I can....

Moe,

There is no pending federal legislation that will further restrict/prohibit ownership of semi-autos or "black" or "green" firearms. That is because we currently have a Conservative government in Ottawa and organizations such as the National Firearms Association and the CSSA have been keeping constant pressure on the Minister/PMO to remember their committments to legal firearms ownership made during the last election. Firearms owners played a significant role in that election and the lobbying/campaigning of groups like the NFA also had a key impact, especially in "swing" ridings.

That said, it is almost a surety that if another Liberal or Liberal-NDP government is elected in the upcoming federal election, firearms ownership, as we now know it will, become a thing of the past. It is almost certain that semi-auto rifles & shotguns will be banned, along with the private ownership of handguns.

If you haven't already done so, I urge you and your friend to join the National Firearms Association and the CSSA. For the price of an afternoon's shooting, you will be helping us take the fight to the Liberals and their gun-grabber cronies and ensuring that there will be many more afternoons of shooting in all of our futures.

A big thanks to all the individuals who have decided to purchase or renew their memberships and especially to those who have gone the extra mile and made significant donations to help us continue fighting the good fight. The momentum is ours fellas, but its up to each and everyone of you to ensure that we keep it! Make your voices heard! Get active! Get involved!

While I am happy to see that the current government recognizes that there is extremely tight restrictions on firearms ownership and further restrictions will do little to prevent gun violence. To them it is a non issue. Great. If it were very politically expediant to ban firearms inorder to secure a sound majority I am sure harper or anybody else would be all over that.

The legal gun owners understand the process. Non gun owners do not and they form the majority and are suceptable to just about any crap the media, antis Government spout.

I am not a believer that the political process will protect our passion. I will make my choices but I remember voting liberal to penalize the Conservatives for bringing in further gun control. (Like that worked out). I will use the court system to fight as well. However the government has more resources to burn than I or anyone does.

Ultimately if you like something buy it, or hungry would suggest buy two. Enjoy it while you can for we do not know what the future will bring.

y'all weren't around when they seized the c/a stens back in the 90's via oic, were you-the locals came by and took , and then were sent to the rcmp testing lab- and the uzi's as well- tried to prove that they could still fire full auto using non-standard"soft" ammo- we had to get a judge to make them use 9mm standard ammo- long story short, the stens were destroyed, the uzi's not- they would have been if the rcmp was allowed to use that"special" ammo-belive what you like, but the government can and will seize private property if it suits them- and there's nothing harder to get than a c/a legally- it worked like this if i remember correctly: you got a registered letter saying you had to surrender the gun at the local police headquarters within 15 or 30 days or they would come and get it, with a seizure warrant- i don't remember if there were ramifications if they had to come out and get it, but the bottom line is you lost the gun

I luckily sold my SPAS-12 for $450 about 6 months before they were conifisicated, sold it to a paramedic , he unfortunately had to turn it to the local cop shop.

What when they prohibited SPAS-12's they confiscated them??? Why did they do this? I thought it would have been a gradfather issue?

Nope, the guy I sold it too had to turn it in. It was not registered at the time so I'm assuming he turned it in. I myself would have buried it.

So if the reason for people to own guns is to defend themselves against a tyrannical government... aren't we supposed to shoot them when they come knocking on our door for our firearms? Personally I wouldn't... which would make my guns only good for punching holes in paper. I'm really hoping they don't make ARs prohib.

FYI in this great land you can own no property, only the right to enjoy it. There is no legal roadblock to the government taking what they want when they want and that extends past just guns.

funny I have seen similar threads before as with the SPAS issue

the search function does wonders

as for what you hear .............once again the search function does wonders

IIRC 12(4) didn't come with grandfathering, but a handful of people did go to court and managed to get that reversed, that's why you have plenty of people with 12(3) and 12(5) but you rarely see anyone with 12(4).

Nope. 12(4) is a small class with specific named firearms. That's why it's uncommon.

IIRC it includes semi-only UZI's, semi-only Thompson's, AUG's, and few more.

That is the exact reason everyone should buy a restricted rifle ( AR or whatever)

The more restricted AR in the system and the more people who own these firearms, the more costly (politically and financially) for them to do anything.

I doubt they will ever exercise another SPAS12/FAMAS type confiscation again - it has been many years ago. Such seizure without compensation, with the use of police resource, is NOT politically acceptable anymore.

On the other hand, as gun owners, we should collectively draw up contingency plans ( from the political and legal perspective, not the PVC burial BS) to anticipate such a challenge in eventuality. So far, no one organization has been able to take up this task.

But again, none of the organization has any long term strategy plan and the capability to undertake such tasking either. Our gun orgs are still very rudimentary and not very sophisticated, compared to orgs like NRA. They are still going issue by issue, day by day.....trying to plug holes with the water leaks.

As I said many years ago, when a fellow asked me "What is the best material to long term store a firearm?" I asked him what he was thinking about and was told he might like to make his guns disapear for a while...I told him if he was going that direction to stop his governernment from taking his guns....perhaps he should consider using them instead!

Its also the reason people should buy rifles like the tavor type 97 xcr and AR180b. Because the more of them there are the more difficult and costly it is for them to change anything about them.

that's SUPPOSEDLY the reason the mini 14 is still unrestricted- too many of them around- however, that DID NOT prevent the ar 15 from becoming restricted( if the gov't in power at the time would have had their way, it too would have been prohibited) and no one knows for sure exactly how many ar 15s were"out there"- but we were all good little citizens and REGISTERED OUR PRECIOUS TOYS because we were told we would go away for a long time if we didn't-in a given demographic at the time, the ar was just as popular as the mini- so they threw us a bone and made it restricted-
big favour-
