That 8-points buck was my first deer on my first deer hunt! As pictured it weighted 100lbs, typical for the Anticosti island.
The semi-auto action probably saved the day and a lot of unnecessary pain.
I stalked it while it was eating grass in the marsh. As I got to 50/75m, it slowly reached the first trees. It bend again to eat hiding his front half behind long grass. Afraid to loose it in the bush, I took aim for the hidden chest. Struck it jumped ahead, stopped and look around to locate the threat. Without moving I quickly pulled a second shot in his eyes. It fell on the spot. I discovered the first bullet did hit the last rib, hitting no vital organ.
7.62x39, I compared three SP loads before the hunt.
Federal Fusion gave 2 MOA at 100yds and MFS gave 2.25 MOA at 100 yds. Sellier&Bellot was much less accurate in that XCR. I chose the MFS as I had it in stock. I found my points of aim at 100 yds (2"¼ grouping) and 200yds (5" grouping).
Terminal performance was very good.
