blackfeather stock arrived!

I'll tell you what I think of mine as soon as I get the damn flash hider off. =P
Haven't had the time to mess with it lately.

But I've chosen to order a navy seal version of the sage ebr thru Armtac.

A good choice, but here are a few reasons, off the top of my head, why you might reconsider:

- no height adjustable, interchangeable back end
- no way to put on a full length AR rifle stock
- no USGI-style, ergonomic countours
- no removable, keyed-in-a-track rail system (this is proprietary to the RS)
- no fully adjustable oprod guide that allows barrel tensioning and additional oprod guide lubrication built-in
- no "match" quality oprod rod guide that is purposely oversized and built in 4140 HTSR steel
M14_Blackfeather_oprod_F.jpg

- no QD sling swivels inserts
- with the SAGE you get heavier weight than the RS
- with the SAGE you get a rifle that isn't as balanced as the RS
- with the SAGE you pay twice as much after tax, they are $1200 + tax here (Insert Hungry's "Why Buy One When You Can Have Two?" Rule Here)
- with the SAGE you get a excellent rifle stock, but with Blackfeather, you get a better one that was designed through 2010 and 2011 and built in 2012
- with Blackfeather you get a very ergonomic, light but most importantly, balanced "system" that affords true interchangeability.
- did I mention better trigger ergonomics and a better, more carefully planned default butt stock height position?
- or the fact that you can buy 3 more oprod guides for Blackfeather and run multiple rifles from the same stock platform and still pay less than a SAGE in Canada?
- or the fact that with Blackfeather you have only to remove a single Grade 8 frame bolt to take down your rifle?

Maybe I didn't...

45ACPKING,

I'd welcome your review of the Blackfeather stock. As a gunsmith your insight would be most welcome.

I would definitely like to see more in depth reviews, so far all I've seen is pictures of builds. However, the stock is only in it's second production run now. I hope to do an amateurs review of the stock when I get mine in the next little while.

I will say though, you have to understand that most here don't know you personally. So it's difficult to accept that your reviews of M14.ca products could be completely unbiased. It's obvious to most that you're direct competitors for many aftermarket parts. Food for thought.

You better get in touch with pretty much every branch of the US Armed forces and let them know they bought the wrong stock! The BF stock looks cool and all and i will probably get one to test out.... but.... the SAGE is battle tried tested and true. You aren't at that level yet and may never be.

we aren't competitors at all...... i do not make m14 accessories or aluminum stocks. A "friend" , my former associate Gothmog , that's his gig not mine. M14Doctor is his domain name. It would be irresponsible of me to get into any details on what could cause me to be biased on M14.ca products, but it has NOTHING TO DO WITH the blackfeather chassis. I am a riflesmith, on a break mind you, who specializes in and only works on the m14/m1a platform. i also make custom composite rifle stocks, but now i also make rifle stocks for other platforms. I am not shilling myself and don't want to get a warning or banning for posting the last few sentences, and am truly on a break from accepting work of all kinds, it's hunting season ;) and I'm just sitting back and observing :)
cheers guys

The Blackfeather "RS" was released on May 16 2012 after 2 years of on and off development. 4 months and 4 days to the day, in place are NAICS, DUNS, NCAGE, NAFTA HTS, BATF Export. I've spoken to hundreds of current and former mil. and leo in the US and Canada and we are on the same page. ;)

AS much as I love the stock....

Bring the dove tail all the way through...You should be able to take off an AFG without having to remove the barrel from the stock everytime.

The only thing I found so far that I do not like about this stock

The waiting game goes on...

I was the second American to send in an import
permit request, but I still haven't received it back.

I don't know who is at fault, the USPS or the BATF.

I was able to put mine on without removing anything except mag (from the end closest to the magazine).

Handrail

What is the handguard rail on that one?

That is a UTG combat tri-rail if I am not mistaken. The only reason I know is that I have the exact same one that came with my rifle. I actually think it looks really good on mine. I had to do a fair bit of reaming on the underside to accomodate the larger ORG. I haven't shot it yet. It comes with hardware to mount it securely to the barrel. I found it was pretty secure only using the large bolt on the side. The front tucks under the gas block plate like the factory handrail.

The only reason that I may not securely fasten it to the barrel is that the new Blackfeather ORG is designed to be "free floating" after the guide and may affect accuracy. It is something I am going to experiment with. As far as looks go, I really like it. Sure beats the cheesy snap on. It comes with 12 rubber picatinny covers. I don't like them as I think they look cheap and add weight. It also comes with three more sections of picatinny rail if you didn't already have enough. A quick coat of paint (conveniently hides the UTG name) and I'm done. The shade of black did not match the Blaclfeather so fresh paint was in order.

M14.ca (Frank) did say they are looking at creating one of their own which will take into account weight, balance, material, performance, looks and price. Until then I am happy and waiting patiently.
