swamped barrel

A swamped barrel is one that has been hand filed to lessen the weight in the middle of the barrel.
 
.50 Cal flinter unfired...not for long though.

Thanks Guys, it's good to be back.

Well the day has arrived, and I have my rifle.
Was the 2 year wait worth it?
Goddamned right it was.
This thing is a mind blower.
It surpasses my expectations and then some.
The ammo I loaded for it even fits, and is close to the correct OAL for this rifle, bullet combination, so it may even print a group.
I'll post pics, and maybe a short video clip after I get back from trying it out.

Just noticed you have one of the, I believe, Agate cut flints in your gun.
I tried one years ago and quickly tossed it as it did not produce consistant result. Went back to natural flint and havn't looked back. Watch your frizzen for any damage
I had my rock-lock built in 1980 by by a maker in northern Monana using a hand tuned Siler lock, a Bauska 50 cal barrel and full length curly maple stock. It has an incredibly fast locktime and the gun shoots better then the guy holding it.

Thanks...as you can see I love iron mounted long rifles. The one with the iron PB I am really excited to get. I had this one built when the exchange rates were really low so got away pretty cheap. It was finished to look like an in the white gun that has nice aged patina. Hard to tell from this pics how the finish turned out. I'll take new ones and repost later.

I got to stay away from the trader boards, too much nice stuff out there and it is a buyers market rigth now. I just passed up a custom jaeger for 450 USD. The in the white gun I paid less then what a parts set would cost and the parts set was a steal as well.

Did I see that Virginia at Muzzleloader.com? I was sorely tempted to buy the Lancaster , problem is I'm a southpaw shooter.Like you say , can't buy the parts for that.

Hey Nessy...Yes I snagged that right away from muzzleloader.com. I'm surprised they both aren't gone. I almost bought em both but not a real fan of brass mounted rifles. I'll post some pics as I put her together. Most of the tough work is done already should go pretty good...I hope!!! It seemed like a good match for my smoothbore. I think the hardware from both is from Jack Garners shop. Stocks look pretty close too.

This is close to what Shiloh is building for me right now, but mine will have even nicer wood.
I've ordered a 45=110 with a heavy 30" oct. barrel , a hand picked AAA exhibition grade checkered stock, the works.
The only thing I didn't order was engraving.
I hate to mess with the beautiful case colours.

Ya can't take the money with you when you croak, so a guy may as well have some fun.
