Beautiful pics Grant and a really lovely "Long Lee" ......
Here's another one, which I bought from another CGN member last year, complete with bayonet/scabbard and a bunch of old .303 MkII 1896 ammo. It was originally issued to the 37th Haldimand Battalion of Rifles.
1896 MLE (Magazine Lee-Enfield) No.1 "Long Lee"
(Mfg by BSA&M Co. - Birmingham Small Arms & Machine Co.)
Nice gun Badgerdog.
There is a little book called "Commando" written by Deneys Reitz he was a young man when he fought in the war good read, you could probably get it online.
The Mauser OFS 189? Rifle I bought here in Canada, one of the 10000 without markings just SN.
S&W handgun, unfortunately due to C-68 deactivated, but it has been in my family since the war so wanted to keep it that way. History: Grand parent’s shipped out of Johannesburg, Transvaal as they where British, to Durban, Natal for duration of war, when returning to their home in Eloff Street this handgun was found in the basement. S&W Russian No.2 .38S&W, I had fired it in SA, I hate C-68.
Grandfather medal; still also have military discharge papers and a letter written during the war, but phew so politically incorrect to-day, he fought with General Buller.
