Bought a surplus x95

My X95 does not like PMags at all. I bought a bunch of metal GI mags for it.

Why would you buy a restricted X95 when you could have same thing as a non-restricted rifle?

X95s are not picky on mags at all, get what you want.

This is inaccurate. For the prospective X95 buyer or owner looking for magazines they should avoid Magpul Gen 2 PMAG's(now MOE). The Gen 3 fixed this by making the cut out behind the follower at the back of the magazine larger and more squared than the Gen 2 PMAG's. The geometry of the Gen 2 interferes with the bolt catch in some platforms such as the FN SCAR and TAR21/X95 where it can cause premature wear and parts breakage on the bolt release due to it binding against it. That being said, Gen 2 pmags will still run round for round in the gun in my experience but I wouldn't recommend that as a healthy long term magazine solution for your gun without using a dremel to sand more material away at the back. Gen 3 PMAG's, Lancers, and USGI have all ran great in my experience.

I tried both Gen 2 and Gen 3 PMags in my X95 with the same result. With certain ammo, the gun would not eject reliably. I believe the bolt was dragging on the magazine somewhere, which caused the problematic ejection. Weirdly the gun fed just fine from those mags. It would only happen with certain type of ammo, which was also kind of strange.

I got some metal GI mags and the gun has run completely reliably with those mags.

I didn't want a 18 inch rifle and i wanted a nice sbr rifle for shtf

I could care less about the restricted issues since i've got my sks and S&W FPC that I take into the woods, and a shotgun

That and i got it for 1800 dollars over paying 2600 or 2800 dollars

Well im screwed, because i bought two pmags gen 2

So ill have to make some mods to make it work

I do have two lar 15 mags that take 10 rounds so i should be fine for now, but ill look at buying different mags before the oic

The entire point of a bullpup is a "full length" barrel in a compact package. A shorter barrel reduces the projectile terminal effectiveness. Your argument makes perfect sense for a conventional pattern rifle and no sense for a bullpup.

By the time we get close to SHTF Boogaloo the govt will be desperate to go after the "assault rifles" they know you have ..... ie the restricted ones. This is why the boom in non-restricted rifles in Canada these days.

X95 can be had for very close to the dealer cost of $2300. IMO $500 is completely worth keeping the govt ignorant of what I have.

USGI mags are fairly easy to find. Just get a half dozen and crack on. ;)

They had 3 to 4 years to go after the ar15 that owners had registered to them, til they removed the ar15 from their owners registered system then went opps we don't know what happened to it.

The rcmp for this reason asks gun owners to turn in their guns, they don't want to go to a place where a person has guns too and run the risk of someone shooting at them

I got to try the regular x95 rilfes and the trevor in the shop first before i made my choice, i kinda wanted it to be shorter then 18 inchs still and i want to pair it with the ps90 which is going to get sbr soon

Also i got my sks as well for longer range and i plan to get a 308 hunting rifle for longer ranges past 100 yards or 200 so

This gun is not going to be my long range shooting gun anyways, this is more of a comfort thing to me since the weight of the x95 are heavy and sbr reduces it as well

I did take into consideration that having any restricted guns put me on squarely to the rcmp list more so, but this government is a joke. They can try to take my stuff

Your gun has a 13” barrel not a 14”

The NR gun is still very compact when compared to a real “SBR”…put a slim buttpad on it to make it even more so (and lighter AND putting the weight even closer back towards you). The extra 5.5” of barrel adds a lot of velocity, makes your rounds more lethal.

Also a R gun for a SHTF isn’t very smart…gotta hope it isn’t taken from you before something happens

Only is Canada are people still selling Gen 2 PMAGS…they’ve always been hot ####…and like the Canadian way (cheap and lazy) our retailers bought them up and sell them, often swapping stock/included magazines with rifles for this #### and selling the original included mag separately
