I was going through a Crappy Tire flyer earlier and they have the smokers on for $100.00 off. I've used one for years and they are great. My recommendation would be to go with the digital one.

Saw them in the flyer too. Been wanting a Bradley for some time now but would prefer the digital. They go on sale for $100 off a couple times a year at CT in my area. One of these days I'll get me one. :)

I was checking them out online and noticed that ct has a smoker box that you place on the lower grill. I'm wondering if that would add a decent amount of smokey flavour to burgers and such, without purchasing a seperate smoker?

Take some wood chips and soak them overnight in water. Double wrap them in aluminum foil, punch small holes in the upper surface and place them directly on the bbq burner beneath the grill. Turn the BBQ to high, and once it begins to smoke, turn down the heat and grill with the cover down.

I'm still going to buy one of these. I'm tired of my charcoal fuelled smoker.

I was looking at some of the propane smokers and they looked pretty decent for a good price. The advantage with those ones would be the ability to do larger amounts of meat and not having to worry about the cold so much. I do all my smoking in my shed because the Bradley is susceptible to wind and cold. It's still an awesome smoker though.

Be nicer if you could get more heat out of them for sure.Slow to get up to temp, and recovery time is not real fast.

I put some slices of brick inside that I had left over when I did my patio and it sure seems to help the recovery time. I preheat for about 1 hour if I'm making jerky or smoking fish.

On the Bradley site (forums specifically), it seems that many users promptly modify their unit with an extra element, a fan, a PID, and many use some kind of "Bubba Puck" (?).

I've always wanted one... Just not sure, my question is... Is THIS the one to jump on? I'd take the digital one over the manual one...

Cheers
Jay

Bubba pucks are made out of metal and are the same size as the wooden pucks. If I only want to smoke what ever I am doing for 60 minutes I would put in 3 wooden pucks (it cycles once ever 20 minutes) and then 2 Bubba pucks. The 3 wooden ones get burnt and the two wooden ones act as 'pushers' to get the wooden ones to the element. You don't waste any of the wooden ones you buy using the Bubba pucks as the 'pushers' would get scorched from the heating element even though they are not on it. I had mine made at a machine shop but some people used properly sized frost plugs I think.

I'm almost done making my UDS (Ugly Drum Smoker)....just need to weld up a grill .
It is a smoke cooker made out of a 45 gal. steel drum .
Once set up it will (supposedly ) cook at 225 F to 250 F for more than 8 hrs. without refueling (uses charcoal briquettes or lump .....some guys use wood )
I made a few modifications from those on the "Brethren" site.... most important one being an adjustable charcoal basket so that I can raise the basket for grilling.

Can the Bradley digital smokers do a cold smoke - so smoked salmon comes out like real smoked salmon BUT not cooked - unlike my old little chief smoker

You will get some heat off the element that burns the puck.

I just went to a machine shop with the dimensions of a puck and got them to make a couple.
