Brand New CZ-75 SP-01 Tactical issue. Did I get a lemon?

Well. price alone won't say anything. right now we still can see deals pop up now and then due to inventory clearing out or just last a few sitting for long time etc. And from where I bought my first gun(not where I got this CZ), some of the guns are still at the prices I saw 8 months ago before dollar tanked. It really depends on how the flow it is at a particular store. This local store from which I bought the CZ has very good reputation, not only here, but also locally in Toronto, GTA area. So, I would like to believe this might be something else, even a rare out-of-factory manufacturing issue. Nonetheless, I would like to have it addressed. It's pity. Such as well balanced gun in my hand. I was so looking forward to do the range report I promised you on that post. It should be a good one. Well, here you have the first part even though the root cause is still TBD.

If it is a good retailer, I'm sure everything is on the up and up and you'll come to a satisfactory resolution.

the finish is worn off the slide, so I'm going to guess it wasn't a new gun. Also if you look at the back of the slide where it contacts the hammer on it's rearward motion you can see it's mashed a bit there, that takes a lot of rounds to produce.

talked to the retailer. they found the same thing on another CZ in their inventory with even worse condition. some of the coating was chipped off. so, both of us will contact the CZ and the Canadian distributor to find out more. Upon more closer inspection, I do see the frame is in the should-be condition, there is only normal slide mark like a few test fire rounds etc. And the gun grease appeared to be the dirty factory(not the firing dirty, but dust dirty). So, this led me to lean more and more on factory issue.

Talked to dlask arms. They said based on the picture, it's more likely a used slide, with slight chance of removing material from fitting process. So, I took out the barrel for more inspection and found the evidence that it's definitely well used.
there is no way a new gun with only test fire will have a white ring like this. and on the rail and inside the slide, it's brown'ish color like rust(not sure though, can other CZ owners confirm if you have this brown'ish color inside the slide and on the rail?). sent msg to retailer and asked for refund. Let's see how it goes. I don't mind used gun and have a few, but don't want to pay new price for it.

Is the deformed metal that Slavex was referring to actually peened by the hammer?
I saw that too but thought it was perhaps some grease.....

Not sure which part of the deformed metal are you talking about? There is no grease deflection in my pictures as I made sure they are close to the actual thing as close close possible. Also the rail on the slide and inside the slide the color of brown'ish. Is that normal?

the finish on the bottom of my slide also came like yours, however, my rail did not have any of that rusty looking colour.

My SP-01 Shadow had that reddish color on the slide and frame when it was new. I'm pretty sure it's grease from the factory. It will come off eventually with shooting and cleaning.

Hi thechineseguy and nippy84, how about the White ring at the mouth-end of the slide as shown in my last photo?

As someone who owns both a CZ and a Sig. This definitely looks a lot worse than the finishing on my CZ however the internal finish on my CZ is nowhere near as good as my Sig 226. This finish is a bad as some and worse that some of my Russian mil surplus and they are known for poor finish. Definitely not typical of CZ's I have seen. Personally I would send it back.

i dont recall if mine had that when i first bought it. i know that it does not have it now after i've brought it to the range at least 20 times since the beginning of july.

I couldn't say if that ring was there when I first got it, but it is definitely there now (I have about 1000 rounds through it). My CZ also had some rough finishing inside the slide and frame (maybe not as many tool marks as yours) but I have never had any trouble with it.

I hope everything works out for you!

I double-checked the gun and didn't see any deform in that area. maybe just picture angle. so many conflicting stories online, now I am really confused what to do next.

Send back for full refund (unless they offer a top up) and buy the real new one at P&D for $1020

That's a great idea. I bought my very first pistol, M&P40 range kit from P&D, great people. and 5% tax. :)
I will try to give them a call next Tuesday to see if the slide is the same, if not, that's another piece of real evidence. then I can file a visa dispute if the retailer doesn't want to do anything and get one from P&D. Thanks!
btw, since you are also thinking about this, why don't you buy one too and tell me how's look like? lol....

now I can tell you, even with the bad slide and can't shoot it, the trigger is nice, the fitting is skin tight, probably will be the tightest gun in my collection(mp40/g22/g41/sr1911/p226 extreme/hk p30l/PPQ M2). So, even with all these trouble, I will definitely try to get one again. I like its trigger is a little heavier(4lb-ish) to give me the total control without being too sensitive. Of course, I don't compete. so, no need for a shadow. the da/sa with decocker always feels more useful/practical for me than safety version. that's why I only have striker fire or da/sa with decocker guns, except 1911 and revolvers of course.

I think some of the expectations of CZs quality control shown here are a little on the high side of reality.
And compared to a Sig? That is just downright laughable. lol.

while I was comparing cz with p226 based on the price point, I did say, and as shown in the pictures, this one I got is worse than my M&P40 & G22 in used condition. I don't think that is a very high expectation at all.

I've owned 4 CZs over the years including my current shadow. One '85 I owned showed quality Finishing and QC (maybe I got the right grumpy old Czech on the tools that day?) and the rest are/were 'meh'. I own 3 glocks and the finishing is far superior in Austria it would appear.

CZs used to be a very inexpensive option. I think the major factor in pushing the shadow prices up is their popularity with IPSC and other gun games.
I just wouldn't sweat the tooling marks as it doesn't seam to affect how they shoot or their reliability.
All of that aside from the used look yours displays of course...that wouldn't sit well with me either.
