brenneke slug molds

Are there any custom mold places or will I just have to design one and find a machine shop?

They are just a different shape of slug. The only ones we can get in canada are a rifled foster type slug. The Brenneke just has a semi-wadcutter profile and is usually a harder cast. No sabot needed but the wadding is attached to the back end of the slug for drag stabilization(felt wad + short screw).

Wiki article for shotgun slugs has a nice pic of one and a description.

u might be able to modify a lee slug 1oz mold or a lyman mold to make a similar projectile, but still have to really experiment with the sabot wadtail for type and weight. seems like a lot of work than other types of slug experimenting.

I prefer the Lyman Sabot slug big@$$ wadcutter pellet looking slug. 515 gr. cast in the purest lead I can find. Lots of data, tested. Wadcutter profile should help transfer/dump energy into game.Have also been shown to be capable of very good accuracy.Plus these moulds are cheaper than custom, and are good quality.

What I wish someone would make is an aerodynamic slug thats 385 grains, that can be loaded in standard wad or other widely avaliable componet. So I could crack that 2000fps barrier and stop buying 20 dollar box of slugs...

I am at 1600fps with lee slugs I used them for hunting but they drop off way to fast. to make them useful in my long range scoped rifled shotgun.

They light up the indoor range in a 8.5" grizzly :)

Maybe I'll take inspiration from the Lyman wadcutter mold that looks like a giant pellet for an air rifle and make a diamond point version. Think that would fit the bill? :p

Nope think 308 boat tail but wider about 68 cal and shorter about 1/2" :) it probally wont fly thats what it has not been done...

This is what I am currently using. Id love be able to reload my own only problem is remington winchester etc know what a gold mine they have and they wont sell there wads as componets.

^I had a few 20 gauge Lyman Sabot slugs I handloaded for my M37 Ithaca, and I purchased later an M87 fully rifled barrel. It's been a few years since I've used it, but IIRC @50 yards I had really good groups with the iron sights.

Dont need to send the whole shell... all you need is the specialize wad... anyplace that does injection molding should be able to replicate one... the plastic composition would be the key... but some have steel disks inserted so the platic holds up to the pressure.

Yeh they work great at 50 yards try getting them to hit paper at 150 or 200 yards, in southern ontario you cant use rifles where we hunt deer...

Have you checked the "12 ga from Hell" thread? Ol' Ed has some pretty interesting ideas that might work for you.

No I haven't. I searched but it didn't come up in any of my attempts.

I did however track down a reasonably priced mold maker in the US; accuratemolds.com. This is giving me way to many bad ideas. And by bad I mean expensive.

Msg.drew, did you ever try those older Winchester BRI .40 calibre sabot style slugs? (2 3/4inch 20 gauge)
The ones I have, appear to have a lead slug in them.

Yep it looks like an hour glass they fly at slower velocity then what I like to use I think they are around 1600 fps

These premium jacked slugs are in the neighbourhood of 1900-2000fps and they are designed to be affective to 150 yards with minimal drop.

I am thinking of switching to a 20 guage because there is probally lot of cool wild cat things you can do with existing pistol bullets like the 50 cal stuff they probally should fit in the normal wad. only problem is i dont have any 20 guage wads or hulls to see what fits and what it possible.
