Brno model 21/22, Serial Number and Date Analysis, HELP build it together !

Just a reminder that if you are submitting stats on your Brno 21/22, and you have noted a single trigger, please CHECK to ensure that it is not an aftermarket unit. Further, please check to see if it is a single (non-adjustable) unit versus a single-set trigger.

Thanks. K.

Got three more for you: 1949-23883-22h-DSB-8x57-double set trigger. /. 1949-24721-22h-DSB-7x57-double set trigger. /. 1955-36996-21h-DSB-7x57-single factory trigger. The 8X57 has a after market round bolt knob.I have still the original butterknife handle. Had a chance to buy a pre 64 Win.or a Brno22h for the same price.Guess witch one I bought. LOL.

Just been checking the 22h.Barrel has the proof mark and year55.Reciever has two proof marks. One followed by the year 55,the other followed by the year 51x.The serial no. and dates don’t fit in your list.

A very strange situation indeed. I cannot explain it. The serial number is normally attributed to late 1952 production. Not unlike Tang Safety Ruger M77's, this could be a situation where the factory built the receiver in 1952, but assembled, finished and shipped the rifle in 1955. I wonder if the "51" is simply an error? Or, maybe the whole thing is a dicked-up parts rifle? Either way, who cares. If it shoots and you like it, enjoy it.

I hadn't noticed until I checked to send you the numbers.Date stamp on the barrel has been polished out.Appears to be a 55.I think the receiver was made in 51,rifle assembled in 55 when it was stamped with the 55 mark.Butterknife bolt handle has been bent and and installed for lower scope mounting but appears to be the original factory installation.Factory single trigger.Still don't explain the 1952 serial no.It is in excellent condition and every thing appears original factory. Nothing added, nothing missing.Should there be any more date stamps any where? Guess its not going to fit in your serial list.Would send some pics but can only do by text.Great info on the Brnos.Keep it up.Seems like Brno didn't waste anything. At the end of some production runs I think some got assembled with whatever parts were left over.Interesting .

Well, it sounds like an interesting piece. There are always going to be anomalies associated with any production rifle. We'll never know the whole story as it's been 70+ years since these fine rifles were built. However, you might be right: '51 production, '55 assembly and shipped.

One other thing. These rifles were built from a parts inventory after 1950. It is very possible they used a pre-serialed receiver in 1951 which were normally used a year later. Because of this "error", maybe they decided to "hold" the rifle and eventually it got assembled/finished and shipped in '55 when most of the parts were exhausted.

I really enjoy your info on these rifles.So far I have 9 Brnos: 1 22h, 2 21h, 1 ZKK 601 .243, 3 ZKK601 .308, 1 model 1 22lg, 1 model 2 22lg .Hard to find them unmolested.One of the 21hs has a bolt handle change to the roundknob.I have the original butterknife and thinking of having it reinstalled.Want a nice professional job,I'm pretty fussy.Got any suggestions? Thanks

I only send my rifles to Jason Spencer ("Gunco") in Nepean (near Ottawa). He's one of the best, and he knows European rifles.

I have/had several 21H's, as well as a Brno Effect single shot and several modern CZ's. Love them all.

Hi there:A few weeks ago I sent you three serial numbers. One was already on your list. The second you added to the list. The 21H serial:3699x was never added. It is the one with the double proof dates on the receiver(51 and 55).I am sure it is100% original as it left the factory. It seems as if like you will find many anomalies with the Brnos, especally in the transition from one model to another.I know it doesn’t fit in your serial list, but was wondering why it wasn’t included.I am pretty sure it is the original from Brno. Are there more similar anomalies?i

I would rather look dumb and be smart, than to look smart and be dumb!
