Brno model 21/22, Serial Number and Date Analysis, HELP build it together !

Updated again for Guns and Roses, who has a growing collection. Of particular interest is his newly acquired 1948 21H with a factory added surplus Kriegsmodell bolt body. These retained the original round handle and lacked a bolt guide rib. Nice find!!

We are at 138 serials and some interesting patterns are unfolding, spanning from early to late production.

Where can a guy find one in 8x57 full stock in great condition with double set triggers and how much they go for?
Thanks

Google is your friend. Full stock variants are super hard to find. In fact, any all-original Brno 21 or 22 is hard to find. They go for between $800 and $1800... depending on condition. I've seen some cherry specimens go for more ! I wouldn't hesitate to pay $1500 for an unblemished, unbubbed Brno 21 in 7x57 or 8x57 as long as it's in excellent condition.

Howdy folks,

Just received my first BRNO in the mail today and thought I'd add to this thread. Like all of my guns, it's been a long time since it's been a safe queen, but I won't be afraid to take it out into the woods once my dies arrive. It was sold to me as a 21F (23.5" barrel with the full stock, so I believe that fits the common naming convention here) and it's chambered in 8x57. As I understand it, the fullstock and the long barrel aren't the most common combination?

I believe this is the ZG-47 style safety? It's quite stiff to operate, but I haven't cleaned or lubricated it yet.
You can also see a previous owner(s) decided grinding down the bolt handle was the easiest solution, and with the old Weaver V4.5 on top of the QD 1 piece rings it just barely clears, but that's good enough in this case.

As you can see, it has a couple tang cracks, but I'd hazard a guess it was bedded after the cracks showed up. It looks like there's some clearance at the tang anyway.

And the barrel stamps

Can I assume it's a 1950 rifle?

It has enough bumps and bruises that I won't feel bad refinishing the stock this winter. I think it's the quickest handling bolt rifle I've ever used, especially without the scope on top.

Hopefully the dies and brass show up soon and I can take it out into the woods and maybe find a late season deer.

Beautiful rifle. Rare 21F. The ZG47 safety is a very nice touch, but was added after the fact. Wierd that the serial number places it in 1951, yet it is stamped 1950. Probably a late 1950 manufactured barreled-action final assembled in early 1951 and serialed accordingly. I added under 1951 with a note.

The bedding is atrocious, but could be at least cleaned up, especially if you refinish the stock. Personally, I would advise against modifying/refinishing that rare stock and just live with the bedding (or have a pro remove it, along with properly repairing those small tang cracks).

Call Chris Griesbach in Three Hills, Alberta. He can probably help fix that lovely old stock.

Updated for Glenn. A pristine 1950 in 7x57 sporting an original Meopta 3x scope in original claw mounts. I am very jealous !!! It doesn't get better than that. I hope he will post pics here.

This is me, I bought it Jan. 9 when I was in a gun/ tackle store on Van. Island. The son of the original owner brought it in while I was browsing, he wanted to get rid of it because nobody in their family wanted it. I paid $900 it’s a beautiful rifle in superb shape, I wish I could figure out how to post pictures.

1955 Model21 rifle 7x57 ser 29429 single set trigger. Not a set trigger but adjustable with screw. Original.

Got a couple here to add to the list.

1950, 28717, DSB, 22F, 8x57
1950, 31487, DSB, 21H, 7x57

Anyone know where I can find an OEM rear leaf sight for the 7x57?

This isn’t for the purists, but it’s not a collector as it’s drilled and tapped (crooked) and had some light rust damage. Not sure about the rail but it gives you more scope options. Added the flip flop recoil pad as the original was melted. Serial #332xx 1950 8x57.
