Brno model 21/22, Serial Number and Date Analysis, HELP build it together !

I’ve recently picked up a strange one. It’s a 1941 Waffenwerke A.G. Brünn wartime action, that’s been overstamped with serial 36754 and obviously completed in 1952.
It’s got the round receiver, claw mounts with fitted Hensoldt Weltzar 1.5-6 scope on see through mounts. Horn grip cap and buttplate, jewelled extractor and bolt release. Military flag safety, charger guide, and case colour hardening on the bolt and shroud. It has the bolt guide rib and the slot in the receiver. 7x57. Not sure how to add photos. I posted pics here though.
Thank you for sharing. I added it to the list. Can you make-out the original serial number? The 36754 was probably re-stamped by the gunsmith who customized this rifle, which only coincidentally places it in the 1952 serial number range.

This is what I noted in the list:

"1941, serial #?, round, 22F, 7x57, surplus Brünn wartime action, with bolt guide rib, charger guide, claw mounts, early (original?) Hendsoldt Weltzar 1.5-6 scope. Customized rifle re-stamped with serial number: 36754, which coincidentally places it in the 1952 serial number range."

What I am most interested in is the original action size. I wonder if the action was a common surplus large-ring K98 that was beautifully turned-down to small-ring dimensions by Brno, or, was it indeed built on a rare VZ-33 or G.33/40 wartime small-ring 98 action? This is now the second Brno 22F that I have encountered with a surplus Brünn wartime action with small-ring dimensions. I suspect the later.

It is also worth noting that German arms manufacturers, including occupied Brno, also built hunting rifles during the war !!

Good evening everyone, I was hoping someone could give me a hand to help. Identify what I have with the following rifle. I picked the rifle up in trade and would love to shoot it, but there is no way to add optics to it. To me it looks very much like a model 21, but it doesn’t have the integral site rail. Any thoughts?

Hello All! Im new to this site, but I need help identifying my Brno rifle. The model and caliber. The serial number is 22*** with FHC stamped under it. It has Zbrojovka Brno Narodni Podnik stamped, but I can't find anything with the caliber. It is a double trigger, appears to be a long action, and has the butter knife bolt handle. Also the stock doesn't go out to the end.

Hard to say without photos, but it sounds like a 21H. Does it have the round top or double square bridge?

It looks to be a 1948 manufactured Brno 21H with the round top. Very nice rifle you have there. I do see that the rear sight blade was removed and replaced with a marble brand insert? Is it drilled and tapped for scope bases? it's hard to tell in the photos, but is that the factory single trigger?

Thank you for the response, yes, the real estate place was removed and marble in place. The receiver has not been tapped for scope base. If it’s not a single pet trigger, it is a regular single state trigger.
Cheers

Good, it sounds like it's fairly unmolested (recoil pad was added later). You can do an EE WTB ad to seek out a rear sight if you want to shoot it.

Lol.the EE ad was me. My gunsmith told me he thought it was the ZG 47, and no one had responded to my question above when I placed the ad. Thankfully, a member messaged me and I got the description on the ad corrected.😀

Odd that my mailbox said that it was maxed out, as it only showed me it was 30%. Regardless I went in and cleared out all my messages so to anyone that I have not responded to I’m sorry, but I haven’t received any messages other than from one member who advised me that it was a 21
Cheers

I saw this thread by chance through a search. I was looking up year and model #s here and see the BRNO 22F I have only has #1364 on the barrel no other number. I am being told it's a 7X57 but will have gunsmith double check. It's missing the first trigger. Wondering on a couple things. Would you know a basic date for build and second where could I find trigger parts?

If you own a Brno model 21/22 (H or F), please feel free to chime-in with your serial number, date of manufacture, whether it's round top or DSB, and any unusual FACTORY features such as...

--> military style charger guide (pre-war and early post-war round top actions)
--> without bolt guide rail
--> without bolt guide rib (surplus Kriegsmodell bolt body)
--> pre-WWII bolt bolt body
--> surplus WWII bolt body.
--> single (-set) trigger, factory option (1948-1954)
--> ZG-47 type trigger, factory option (1955-1956)
--> ZG-47 type shroud/safety assembly, factory option (1954-1956)
--> ZG-47 type bolt body, factory option (1955-1956)
--> ZG-47 complete bolt assembly, factory option (1956 only)
… ETC.

This will help us to better understand our superb rifles.

Note: the "21" models have a 23.5 inch rifle barrel and the "22" models have a 20.5 inch carbine barrel. "H" and "F" simply denote "half" or "full" stock.

The "21" and "22" model codes, along with the associated "H" and "F" model codes are simply American nomenclature. The factory actually referred to them as "Z" rifles (as marked on top of the receiver) which came in different configurations as shown in the list above.

Great thread on the Brno 21/22...

I have just acquired what appears to be a Brno 7x57 model 22H with a square bridge which could be added to your list. The serial number is 38583 and it comes with a Meopta 3 power scope which probably came original with the rifle. I bought the rifle through an auction and it is in splendid condition and shoots very nice patterns at 100 yards. Photos would be provided if I knew how to upload. I am new to Canada Gun Nutz. My hope is to discover more information about the history of this particular piece.

Hi Terril;

Added: 1954, 38583, DSB, 22H, 7x57, claw mounts and original Meopta 3x scope

Sounds like a beauty, and based on serial number, probably 1954 manufactured. You have a rare one, being a carbine. Well done.

#1364 is probably not the serial number. It's hard to give you any assessment without clear photos of all angles. If it's a carbine, unmolested, and it shoots well, you got lucky.

Hi harlon;
Both of your rifles are added.
Thank you.
The 22F came with the rear receiver D&T. I couldn't bring myself to drill and tap the front ring, so had Jason fabricate a base that allowed me to fit a Burris Fast Fire to the rifle. Adds virtually no weight, gives both eyes open instant aiming - not a target rifle, but very useful for many hunting situations .
I like the fact that this set-up adds no weight/bulk to a superb handling rifle.
The 21H has a Zeiss Zielklein mounted in vintage rings that fit the square bridges, and are windage adjustable, no idea the maker, fortunately they came with the scope !
Can't get over how trim, light and slim the Brno 21/22 series are. Outrageously good 'hunting' rifles.
I have a long standing thing for Mannlicher Schoenaur rifles as well.
Jason and I have a long standing joke that the Brno 22-F is the 'mannlicher that out-mannlicher's Mannlicher !!'
