UFC fighter Brock Lesnar pleads guilty to Alberta hunting charge

A former wrestling and Ultimate Fighting championship fighter has admitted to a hunting infraction in southern Alberta.

UFC fighter Brock Lesnar pleads guilty to Alberta hunting charge

A lawyer for Brock Lesnar appeared in a Medicine Hat court and pleaded guilty on his client's behalf to improper tagging of an animal during a hunting trip last year.

He was fined $1,725 and given a six-month hunting suspension.

Two other charges of leaving meat to rot and illegal possession of wildlife were dropped.

Lesnar, who is 34, was accused by fish and wildlife officials of shooting a mule deer buck but only packing the trophy head out.

He was charged along with a hunting guide.

The director of the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society said it is considered unethical to leave edible meat in the field.

So whats the regs in AB? You have to bring the hide out too? I'm 100% behind all the meat being packed out and understand why you need proof of gender, but I'd be pissed if I had to carry out every hide- especially on some of my backpack hunts.

I thought you had to pack the hide out in BC? At least that's what I was told by my CORE instructor and a CO, haven't checked the regs.

In AB for deer you must attatch the tag to the tendon on a rear leg, leave proof of species(tail) and ###(scrotum or something) on the same quarter as the tag.

Leaving the head on is also acceptable if it stays on until you have the deer wherever you or your butcher is going to process it.

You don't have to pack out the hide or the head for that matter, except in zones where submission of the head for a cwd check is mandatory.

(Just a little fyi, on a doe for proof of ### most common is to leave the udder. I personally don't like doing this unless I'm heading home right away. Instead I leave the anus/vulva. It's a tiny patch of skin, weighs nothing and isn't full of milk to rot. I know some find it somehow disturbing, but I don't see why it should be any moreso than leaving the empty scrotum or penile sheath??)

CALGARY — American UFC star Brock Lesnar has pleaded guilty to one of the hunting charges he faces and fined $1,725.

A lawyer representing the ex-heavyweight champion entered the plea in a courtroom in Medicine Hat today.

Lesnar had been facing three charges laid by Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers. Those were: unlawful possession of wildlife (a whitetail deer), wastage of edible flesh (of a mule deer) and failure to immediately affix a tag to an animal.

The first two charges have now been dropped.

In a statement, Lesnar said he was participating in a filmed hunt guided by Trophy Hunters Alberta. As an American hunting in Alberta, he needed to hire a guide to hunt legally.

“The outfitter is there to make sure you follow the rules. I had two deer tags for the trip which meant I could legally shoot two deer. On the first day of the trip, I shot a mule deer,” he said.

“On the second day, I shot a white tail. Video from the hunt has been on the Internet for over a year. After I shot the mule deer, I failed to immediately tag it. As far as I was involved, that’s all there is to it.”

In reference to the spoiled meat charge, Lesnar said he could not bring meat across the border and trusted the outfitter to handle it appropriately.

Lesnar said the fine has been paid and “it’s the kind of thing that happens to hunters all the time.

“I want to thank the Canadian authorities for their co-operation in resolving this misunderstanding. I love Canada and I can’t wait to go back to Alberta for a hunt,” said Lesnar through his agent.

“I’m glad to put this behind me, so I can focus on my fight against Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 on December 30.”

Lesnar’s guide, Chad Stryker, was also charged with the same three counts. He appears before court in January.

I hope your right, and that its a good fight. I'm not that impressed with Overeem. You really think he's got it in him?

No - Lesnar will steam roll him into the cage and pound him out. Overeem's achilles heel is his ground game. The only chance he has, imho, is to tag Lesnar within the first half of the first round.

BTW I am not a Lesnar fan-boy. In fact I dislike his arrogance.

I am sure no CO our core instructer ever told you to pack out the hide. If they did they need to be fired. There is no requirment in BC to pack out the hide unless the animal is classified as a fur bearer. For example Grizzly, wolf, coyote or cougar.
You need proof of specis (some fur) proof of ### and in some cases the horns or antlers for big game animals.

Lesnar will try, Overeem is alot stronger than many think, and alot more skilled. One look at his resume will tell you. Lesnar has a glass chin, that's why he "was" the champ. The only rolling Lesnar will be doing will be by himself after he eats a couple heavy hits, and can't see straight. :D

To be more accurate, Lesnar doesn't have a glass chin. What he has, is a complete loss of composure when faced with an aggressive striker. His instincts are all wrong, and he turtles up and turns his back. I'd like to see him lose again, but I'm not sure if Overeem can put the pressure on like Carwin or Velasquez did. Man Overeem looks big. He can't be natural, but who cares.

Some guys just have good genetics, he's passed all his tests for the fight as well as his Strikeforce fight tests. See how he eats and trains that's how he massed up lean. Yes I agree, Lesnar has a hard time in the eye of the storm keeping his composure. Unless Brock can take him down, he's in for a punishment. Very few athlete's can stay focused on training for long periods of time (years), Overeem is one the select few........we will see in a couple hrs

It's funny how the only drug test failures I've heard of from the UFC were both for using nandrolone, an anabolic with a notoriously long detection time (6 mos or more). If a guy was taking say, test suspension, it would clear his system in half a day. The only way they could detect it would be if your other hormone levels were way out of way as a result of it. I doubt they check for shriveled testicles. Anyway, I digress. I hope the big kickboxer puts on a good show.

Oh ya, after that embarrassment of a fight. I give Brock credit for doing what he did since starting in the UFC but Overeem is the real deal. I think this heavy weight belt has done some fast moving around until Overeem gets hold of it then I think it will be another GSP situation. I think GSP has had his fair share of time with the belt.

Overeem has passed tests in his last 2 Strikeforce fights, some guys just have good genetics. Lesnar is no longer a juicer as UFC is very tight on juice testing, as he weighs in at 265 limit. Unlike his WWE days when he was 315. Overeem will destroy Lesnar

Go check some of Overeem's fights from 10 years ago.........60 lbs lighter....that kind of mass isn't EASY to put on.....not saying he juiced but it is pretty obvious.

There are many ways of passing the steroid tests. Bodybuilders/athletes do it all the time. ;) Ben Johnson's doctor back in the day was an expert at it. The only reason Ben Johnson got caught is because someone actually did sabotage him.

Totally agree! I can't wait to see Nick Diaz beat GSP!
