How many out there use a Abolt?
I bought a composite stalker in 300 WSM an more recently put a Redfield revolution on it..
Its features are some of the better ones i like on all my different rifles an also comes to shoulder well, i fitted a Kickeez recoil pad on it to tame it down!

Here in Aus there was a runout sale the rifles were going cheap, $880 CS, $1045 SS an i forget the wood price, but that was until they Ran out... You can buy them now for the special price, although only in select calibres.

I use 150gr Super X through it ATM, have a big hunt planned on the weekend, so will be a good workout.

Lots of Abolt haters out there, they'll be around shortly.

I had one for years in 300 Winmag, bought it new when they first came out(late 80's?) and used it for everything. It was an awesome rifle and never let me down. I sold it in a moment of weakness when I first discovered the EE on CGN. I'd buy it back in a flash, but haven't seen it back for sale. It was a stainless one that I put a Medallion walnut stock on, so I'd like to think I was the first to have the "White Gold Medallion" version. :D
The trigger was a bit stiff, but I cut one coil of the spring and that did the trick. They were pretty pricey when they first came out. I got mine from the US, and with a Leupold VariXII 3-9x40 it was $1200US back then. I do have the scope yet, it sits on my Tikka M695 also in 300 WinMag.

I prefer them to the XBolt and the funky button on the bolt handle.
 
I also trimmed a coil or two off my trigger to lighten it up a bit, is OK right now but in future may trim some more.

Havnt had a chance to look at the X bolts, but the Abolt really is a good hunting rig plus they do shoot well!!
 
I bought my 300wm synthetic blued new for $550 this past winter, I like every feature on it, someday I may put a laminate stock on it, right now it is my most accurate rifle I mounted a 4-16 scorpion on it.
 
I had one in 7mm Rem Mag and damn that thing was accurate! Loved 162 grain.
I had the opportunity to work on a White Gold in 300 WSM, as the person who owned it couldn't get better than 4 MOA at 100 yards. Found that the bent piece of metal that Browning uses for the rear tang support wasn't providing enough up pressure. Once fixed , that thing shot MOA with factory loads. Rattled my teeth though...
 
My sons and I have quite a few A-bolts kicking around here (both rim fire and centre fire) and they are all well loved. I especially love my Micro Medallions and Stainless Stalker. Haven't tried an X-bolt, yet.
 
Browning Abolt

Personally, I like 'em although I currently only own one [composiste stalker in .300 Win Mag]. I seem to have more Rem 700's and Win 70's that anything else.

However, I went to the Abolt in .300 Win Mag specifically for the factory 26" barrel.

And 70 grs of IMR 4350 behind any good 180 gr SP bullet is magic in my ABolt. Mine's topped with a vintage B&L Elite 4000 2.5-10x40mm. Would be my "go to" for any potential moose hunt.

I've also owned a stainless stalker in .308 Win and a Hunter in .30-06 both of which were also accurate rifles.

I have two A-Bolt II's (Hunter models in 270 WSM & 300 WSM) and an original A-Bolt Medallion in 270 win that is unfired. I'm a lefty so there is limited choice however I do have Savage, Remington, & Winchesters in the safe but like the Brownings the best They fit me great, shoot awesome, and I like the mag system.

Too bad Browning didn't allow for the drop it in and fold the plate, snap, dun.
I suppose it's just like anything else, do it enough and ya won't go gitt'in blind...:p....so to speak..........;)
 
I have owned a couple of A-bolt rifles in the past, but am unlikely to buy another.
Good points: Accurate, Nice handling rifles.
Bad points: The trigger is a POS [I have seen at least three with broken-off triggers]
The magazine system is an abortion. [Browning must have realized that as well, the X-bolt has abandoned that wretched system.]

Own two A-Bolts, a couple of BLRs and a BPS. Not a single bad thing to say about Browning. Accurate, triggers are fine, and the magazine system on the A-Bolt is like so many other things firearm related that came and went because they were different and ahead of their time. Also, upgraded all my Remingtons to Rugers (okay, kept the 7600 in .243). ;)
 
I had a Hunter model in .270 Win. It was my first rifle. I liked it a lot but wasn't fond of the calibre. Sold it and now I have a Rem 700 in 30-06 and I like it better. YMMV.
 
I got my first stainless Browning in the mid 80's when they first came out! I now have another one...300wsm stainless Stalker / boss....I've had awesome good luck with them over the years...so has my son and the Lil wifey :D....We Love them
