Browning Auto-5 'Whippit' project

According to this Tales Of The Gun "Gangster Guns" episode, the "whippit" style conversions were intended to be shoulder fired:

I don't see it being very accurate beyond very short range compared to the full stock though, so probably wiser to keep the full length stock if you intend to use it for hunting.

It also remains to be seen from my end what effect the reduced mass is going to have on felt recoil...

So I was just wondering what to do with the old Remington Sportsman 58 and Browning Auto 5 (A5? Acier Special?) that have sat in the safe for decades, and now I think there is a plan for one of them. Thanks for the thread!

Here she is with the +1 magazine extension:

A little shiny in aluminum, will probably find a way to blacken it along with the butt plate.

It takes 5 rounds comfortably, I used the same spring but it feeds them all when racking manually, we'll see how it does on the range.

Finally mustered the courage to chop the stock and I'm glad I did, added a couple of threaded inserts, rubbed tung oil into the cut segment and finished off with a 1/8" aluminum plate.

Doubtless not the best of ideas for my shoulder but in the spirit of a "whippit" gun I figured it would have been preferable if butt-stroking was required.

Besides, can't be worse than a Kar98K, right?

Now to find some range time...

Bravo. Also, is it odd that I want to replace all my old plastic and bakelite buttstocks with aluminium?

that turned out great! well done! if you can post some videos of this puppy in action

So what did you do with the Poly-Choke?

Looking for one for a project Cooey.

Nice looking shotguns BTW.

Yup.
And going shorter then 18 doesnt make it restricted. It makes it PROHIB if you are cutting it down yourself. You can BUY the shorter barrel, but cutting it down yourself under 18" will make it prohib.
18 in is for non semi guns, 18 1/2 min for semi, but as Guntech said, cut the barrel abit longer, so if something happens to the muzzle, you can still cut a little off.
P.S. Just see the pictures, nice job, not that I would want to shoot it, my nose may be too big,
