Budget 9mm?

There is a M&P Gen 2 on the exchange for $450. Better buy than new Norincos by a large margin. You can play IDPA/IPSC with the gun or just shoot tin cans at your gun club, subject to the rules of the club of course. I just tapped out my next gun account or I would buy it just because of the price.

what do you like better gen 1 or 2?

I have to say that the NP22 is pretty hard to beat considering the price point and the fact that SFRC has an 18% discount every few months and free delivery on Norinco handguns. Just do the math and you will not find a better deal anywhere and believe you me, I have looked. Even if you looked on the EE, people are selling used NP22 for more than you can get it new and when you factor in the cost of delivery from a private seller...

As for Turkish guns, I find them expensive for what they are. Canucks in some cases are more than double the cost of a Norinco and when you add the taxes and delivery then it begins to creep near the big name companies.

The NP22 is a good gun and when in a hurry, I easily mistaken it for my p226. The accuracy is not bad either and is pretty close to the real thing at 1/3 of the price. The only other value gun I would recommend over the NP22 is the NP34 which is the p228 clone. It is the sub compact version of the p226. It is the same price as the NP22 and comes in two tone and all chromed at no extra cost. I had my p228, NP34 in two tone and NP34 in chrome at the range together and yah... I can definitively say that these are the best deals around. My favourite between the NP22 and NP34 is hands down the NP34 in two tone. The full chrome NP34 is heavier because of the chromed frame but I prefer my two tone NP34 because 1, has an aluminium frame 2, a picatinni rail in front of the trigger guard for a light or lazer 3, a threated barrel which is a good compromise because the barrel sticks out a bit from the slide and 4, is lighter and smaller than my NP22. People look at me funny at the range because I stick all sorts of muzzle devices on my two tone NP34, from fake compensators to muzzle brakes just for $hits and giggles and if you ever want to start an argument with the RSO and his buddies. No real supressors seeing that they are prohibited, for now anyways. One can only dream.

If Sigs and Sig clones are not your thing, SFRC once upon a time sold Zastava m70A1s for $250 but that was more than a few years back. I always wanted a shootable Tokerav 33TT copy that I could find ammo for. The m70A1 is in 9mm compared to the TT which is in 7.62x25. I call it a copy and not a clone because the Zastava factory made actual TTs. Something a bit different with a lot of history. It also feels quite different in your hand from any other handgun. For an all steel gun, it is thin, surprizingly smaller than my 1911s and Hi Powers. I threw some $14 Hogue grips on it and now it is very comfortable. Occasionally you will find these on the used market for around $250 but if I were getting my first handgun and I am on a budget for whatever reason, I would go with the NP34 or NP22.

I have not shot the Gen 2. The Gen 1 was a very good pistol. The Gen 2 has some improvements and being newer will be the gun after market part makers will support. Out of the box the Gen2 trigger is said to be better. If I didn't have my eye on another project I would have bought the Gen2 for $450. That is a steal, frankly.

Nothing wrong with the M&P in either Generation. A few years ago a Master shooter came to our Provincials. Used my Gen1 M&P to beat the field by a few minutes over 12 stages. I never forgave the gun. It never shot that well when I was pulling the trigger. LOL

Get the Gen2 if you can.

is it really a steal at $450 ?.You can buy a new one for $80 more. Then you have tax I suppose

M&P M2.0s are reasonably priced. If you want something less expensive, the SD9 would be my choice. Either one will give you something serviceable that avoids off-brands.

For an old school budget 9mm I'd put in a plug for a Star Model B.

First pistol?
I like full size and steel.
I stick to 9mm to keep the ammo horde simple.

Try looking aroung a site like Tenda especially at their surplus pistols.
Something like a Jericho, Berretta for around $500.
Good reliable brand names and common parts.

Norinco are awesome for getting into pistols and getting comfy with their use and practice while you decide if you want to lay down serious cash.
NP22-SIG 226 copy
NNZ75 and NZ85 are CZ 75 and 85 copies.
Great prices, buy some hogue grips and a crate of a thousand rounds for the price of anynone elses' pistol price.

The Turkish companies are nothing to snear at.
They are great sales deals especially when they introduce them into Canada, then the price crawls up when everyone starts buying them.
Girsan Yavuz-Baretta 92 copy at way better prices.
Tisas-Kanuni and I forget what the other metal job was, good pistols.
Canik or Tristar do CZ75 and Jericho copies at two thirds the cost and all the quality.
Sarslmaz make CZ75 copies, so good that Armalite rebranded them and sold them through their name.

Norinco CF98, a good deal.
Everyone raves about roatry barrel action accuracy.
Most read the Norinco label and hold their nose in the air and walk away.

Don't panic over the quality and accuracy.
Accuracy is a point of training and pactice.
Get something cheap and shoot a lot more ammo and enjoy.

Bersa's out of Argentina are absolutely beautiful workmanship for the price.
Hard to find them around, folks tend to keep them.
Taurus out of Brazil is also a very reliable company.
PT92, PT99 can be found at very good deals on EE or as surplus at dealers.

Polymers
MC28-Girsan
B6P-Sarmilmaz
TP(-Canik
SD9-S&W
M&P9- look on the EE

Of course if you like a five pound chunk of steel that always goes bang, there is always the Hipoint.

I've had a couple of Norinco pistols, a CZ copy (in .40S&W) and Sig copy. I've gone off buying Chinese stuff but those two both worked well enough that I would say they were plenty of gun for the money.

Tons of guns for $400-500 est used. Unless you're getting a norinco for $250 or less. I'd move up to something a lot better for a little more. Girsan makes very decent stuff.

P.S. You called Xmetal bullets unloadable so I don't have high hopes for you Meroh, lol.

Can't let that go eh? Three calibers, issues with all of them. The guys I shoot PPC with have given up on them too. Campro Copper plate or DRG lead: no issues at all. You keep the X-Metal; you can have them all as far as the guys at my club are concerned.

Oops! I kind of misspoke, mine is actually an NP-40 in 40 S&W! If you are curious yet it is the Remington UMC enclosed base "lead free" (pretty sure that's not accurate, as it sure looks like a lead core) 180 gr. bullets. Very, very wide meplat. I don't think I've seen any other semi auto cartridge bullets with that big a flat before. Looks more like a big flat nose that would be more at home in a revolver.

Pretty common bullet design in .40; I had feeding problems with everything except CP truncated cone in a NP58 .40; I sold it and got a Jericho; and it will digest anything (might even shoot X-Metal; but I'm not going to try LOL).

Norinco NZ85 and NP22 in the EE right now; both good prices, and great value for the money! Don't like them? Sell them for what you paid on the EE.
