Hello fellow gun nutz

I'm thinking about getting a 9mm pistol but want to be economical given the uncertainty about handgun ownership.

I've looked into some of the options but wanted to get some feedback from more experienced folks here.

Don't want to buy junk and some of the Turkish pistols really rubbed me the wrong way.

Any suggestions would be welcome

Thanks

I got myself a norinco Np22 (sig P226 clone) for 267$ taxe in and shipped from SFRC. Best bang for the buck i ever got. To this day pistol has 1k+ rounds shot and not one single failure and accuracy is as good as any other pistol i used. M&P 2.0 and CZ P10F ( i got a P10F for sale on the EE *wink wink*) are really good gun for the price. My M&P has 2.5k round and i still love it truly an amazing gun

Any name brand used polymer off the EE is good. I would look at the M&P 9mm. You can find them around $500 used on the EE now.

The IWI Masada, Beretta APX, CZ P-10C and Ruger SR-9 and Jericho 941 are all good choices.

Respectfully, I would go all steel, full sized. Extra weight makes them easier to shoot. Budget price? New or used Norinico NP29 (1911 in 9mm) NP85B (Nork CZ clone) these can be found for around $300.00; new <$400.00; best value out there right now. I have never had a Nork NP22; some like them; I did have the same pistol in .40 S & W (NP58); it was prone to feediing issues. I replaced it with an all steel full sized Jericho 941 in 40, and now have zero issues. All steel full sized Jerichos in 9mm are hard to find, although there are some surplus ones hitting the market now. They are a little pricey for surplus pistols IMO.

Regardless; lots of choice.

At the price you can pick up a lightly used M&P these days, I see no reason not to grab one, they are stupid cheap for the gun you are getting, most gen1's are $400-450 for the range kit with holster and mag carrier, gen2's are around $500! I'm a Glock guy to the core, but even I'm thinking of grabbing one lol.

Just get a cz 75/shadow etc and be done.
They can be had for less than 700 in the ee right now.
Not budget but imo best value.

agreed, Its just one of the best pistols around.

Otherwise if you just want a cheaper pistol the new Tara pistol is a Glock-like pistol found for ~$359 for a 9mm made in montenagro. The other good starter pistol if you prefer the style/feel is a Glock 17 or 19. Tokarev style pistols are also popular budget pistols however the tendency for ammo to be corrosive and the overall lack of safety features may make an argument for these to not be the first choice as a starter pistol. So essentially my Advice is to just buy a CZ shadow or look at Glocks. If you just want a cheap 9mm to go pow pow with at the range once and a while look at the Tara pistols, they are nice for their cost and no worry to have to "fix" anything like you may have with a Norinco clone.

I quite like my Girsan MC28. It doesn't spit mags out as smoothly as my Shadow 2 but it was also 1/4 the price. Other shooters have been impressed with the trigger for a cheap polymer strikerfire and the takedown is very simple. One thing, look at the price of extra mags for whatever pistol you choose. More mags = more time spent shooting.

I picked up a Girsan MC28 on sale at a really good price and an extra mag was affordable too. While my experience to compare it with other pistols is limited, I like it so far and it was way cheaper new with an extra mag than a used M&P on the ee. I also recently picked up a Norc NP58 (.40 S&W P226 clone) for cheap when SFRC had a big sale. I've only fired a couple mags through it but it seems pretty good.Tthe double action pull is super heavy but I'm hoping that it will lighten up with some use. Single action felt quite nice. I wanted inexpensive stuff to get started and practice. So I wouldn't shy away from a Norc or Girsan if you can get a good deal on one.

I don't think handguns are going away any time soon. Buy something nice. Something with a nice trigger, good sights, and fits your hand comfortably.

I'd recommend the M&P 9 even if it wasn't as cheap on the used market as it is. I have a stupid high round count (over 50K) through mine and it's been really flawless, the fact that you can get it cheap is just icing on the cake.

+1 on the np22, you get a lot of gun for your $250.

You can still find lots of surplus 92s berettas for around $450. It's pretty easy to find one that was never issued. The sights leave something to be desired and the mag release location isn't for everyone (and spare mags are pricey/or you have to modify later 92 series mags). But overall it's a great way to get into the 92 platform for under $500.

M&P Is another great option. Go to your LGS, handle as many different guns as you can, pick one that you like in your budget and get out shooting!

There's plenty of Gen1 M&Ps floating in stores and I think they're an awesome value, especially if you can find them for $500 or less. I'd save the extra coin and get an M&P over an SD9VE personally. As others have mentioned, if you can save up a little more, a CZ Shadow is a terrific gun for the price.

I would not give the handgun ownership a second thought buy what you like..

+1

I got a feg hi power(the actual clone) for 275 with 2 mags. Great deal. Sights aren't as good as a modern gun. But its excellent for that deal!
