Buy me a rifle... updated with target

Fair enough. These days I only buy guns for specific purposes, so we're certainly on different paths.

Yes, I suppose it depends on how strict one is about what constitutes a "specific purpose." In THEORY I invent a purpose for everything, but in practice it's 90% "just because" or to try something I've not owned before.

I haven't handled a 452/455 in several years and have no experience with the 457 so can't comment. I was just impressed with the T1X for what it was, though the magazine is criminally ugly.

Indeed it is, but then I've never accused any Tikka of being cursed with good looks. The attraction for me is their universally outstanding performance. The T1x is a great value in that regard.

If you prefer a two-stage trigger then its a done deal - buy the Annie.

Be interesting to hear from an owner, but the literature on the Steyr lists it as a "two stage" trigger, but then I've also read it kind of isn't, in that it's more of a very short slack rather than a real two stage. Either way, not a deal breaker or even really a factor. Happy with either ultimately.

Anyway, ordered a 1416 HB G20 from Nordic last night, looking forward to it.

I have a 1416 18" barrel with 2 stages trigger. It's crazy accurate with SK long range ammo. Shoot 3/4'' at 100m and, around 2 1/2'' at 200m. Cant ask for more!
Hurry up if you want one! Bought mine at Nordic marksman.

That's exactly the model I ordered, along with a bunch of SK from Tenda.

Tikka T1x, and spend the rest on a good scope and a few spare mags. :)

I have a big, heavy Anschutz 64 that is VERY accurate with $10/box ammo....but I've shot my T1x WAY more since I got it.

My only issue with the T1x is how cheap it looks for a $740 (+ tax) rifle. You soon forget that when you shoot it, by FAR the most forgiving .22 I've ever owned in terms of shooting accurately with the widest variety of ammo. The more .22 you shoot, the more you value accurate guns that aren't fussy. I haven't come across many.

Of the two choices though... :) .... I'd say Anschutz, but I have no first-hand experience with Steyr.

Have one already... plus enough spare optics that I'm in pretty good shape.

Agree with your assessment exactly; they look and feel cheap, but they perform like a million bucks, just like the centerfires.

^100%. I've contemplated upgrading the stock, but it works just fine as-is. More weight won't make the shooting experience any more enjoyable either. I think TIkka got it right.

I have an Anschutz 1416 ,heavy 23 inch barrel. Along with hundreds if not thousands of Anschutz owners, I am disappointed with both the ultra stiff magazine release and the way too frequent ejection troubles. I am thinking about another 22lr. My normal progression would have been to a 1710 or 1712, however due to these two issues , I find myself trying to research other manufacturers in hopes of finding a quality rifle, quality trigger and proven accuracy in a more user friendly platform. I am positive that Anschutz is losing customers due to these two issues which have been well documented for many years. I am looking at the Zephyr II as one possibility.

wesson357, thank you for those tips, but I just do not have the ability to perform fixes like those two. I am also in QC, near Bromont. If you were close, I would try to hire your skills to treat the ailments of my 1416.

Well, it'll be a short list, if you're talking new bolt action .22s around the 1 to 1.5k price point that are generally available in Canada.

CZ, Ruger, Anschutz, Steyr, Bergara, SAKO. Browning if you count the T Bolt. It would be super cool if Winchester would bring back the Model 52 as a proper mid to high range offering. I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Edit... Lithgow? Does that count as generally available? I'd like to check one of them out.

Until COVID put the brakes on, I was heading to NZ for three months to hunt. Of all the rifles in the world to take, the T3x Lite stainless was a no brainer, over much "nicer" rifles available to me. You don't need to do a thing to it out of the box, it's as near indestructible as you can get in a rifle, highly accurate, common worldwide, and not so expensive that you'll cry about the inevitable damage or possible loss. You need a rifle there that you're not afraid to use as a walking stick if necessary. I agree about swapping the stock - I've done it on Tikkas and it didn't make them shoot the slightest bit better. I would be inclined to spring for the laminate model if I wanted more weight, such as in a magnum chambering. They're kind of appliances of rifles, but they're great appliances.

I went with the steyr

Well that sucks.
