My RPAL should be processed soon (it's been a month so far) but I live in Ontario so it might be longer than I think. But anyway, I've started to consider what 9mm semi-auto I might want to buy to shoot at my club and I've seized upon the Jerico or 'Baby Eagle' as a likely candidate. Anybody know a reliable dealer in Canada who sells a lot of them? Thanks.

I like the idea of a .22 pistol and probably will get one later on but right now I want something I can shoot all year round. In the winter months at our club the indoor range restricts us to using only lead-free WinClean ammo which only comes in full power calibers.

I read a lot of good things about the Baby Eagle and I understand it's very similar to the CZ 9mm (A nice weighty gun which I have had some limited experience with). I have thought of the M&P as well because it's reasonably priced and the reviews are good.

I just sold a 9mm Baby Eagle on Monday. They go for $819.95 at Wholesale Sports. Definitely a cool little gun.

Thanks. Visited the web site and they have a lot of nice stuff. Unfortunately, there are no locations in Ontario but they do ship. Might be a bit much to spend on a first gun but at least it's not comparable to the H&K USP prices I've seen.

.22 is cheaper to shoot easier on recoil and for the most part cheaper to buy with a few exceptions.

I really do believe that firearms are not covered under the "you get you paid for attitude".

I do believe that spending more on a glock or M&P or a sig would be good if the funds are there.

I could buy a Norinco NP 20 for $229 and a lee anniversary press kit, brass, powder and primers and still have $200 in my pocket and still be able to shoot fairly well. Especially for a beginner.I just think this is a faster way to learn faster and enjoy the sport more. Especially for someone on a budget.

Of course if you have the money buy what ever grabs your fancy

My first was the M&P, 740.00 not cheap (to me anyways). The second though, norinco 1911 45 for 360 even. 9's are a fun gun and i thought it was something nice to start with considering rounds are cheaper then 40. 45. ect. 22. though is the way you wanna go if your gonna be pounding rounds out your ying yang.

Actually I have a .22 already, but a rifle; a Ruger 10/22, which I put oodles of rounds through at very little cost, but a .22 pistol is on my list for future buys (perhaps a nice elegant looking High Standard). Right now though I just wanted a full power pistol that I could shoot all year round (as I said, our winter indoor range prohibits lead ammunition and there is no WinClean .22 ammo).

And yeah, I've been very tempted to go with a Norinco pistol because I haven't really heard any bad things about their products. By all accounts they work how they're supposed to. A friend of mine has their M14 rifle and we had a blast putting rounds through it a couple of weeks ago. I just figure I buy enough stuff made in China as it is.

I don't think theres anything wrong with a "full power pistol" as your first handgun. I would recommend nothing larger than a 9mm in something common (Glock, S&W, Ruger, etc). Reason- 9's are relatively cheap to start off with, if you feel you will get bored with .22. (You may find you want a .22 later just so you can spend more time at the range). The big thing is to get some good instruction from people in the know. Join a club, and don't be afraid to ask for help on day one onwards. Most shooters are more than happy to take some time to make sure your running your pistol safely, and can point you towards the type of shooting you are interested in. Good luck & have fun.

Save and choose well

New to the pistol world myself and I must say I am still lovin' my Sig 226, spend the money you won't regret it, here's a look at mine, cheers

If you have to have the gun shipped you are better off ordering out of province so you don't have to pay the PST. Shipping is usually $20-30

i just ordered one of the new 1911's in .45 ACP from canam for 349. i am also looking for a 9mm like you. i have narrowed it down to the glock 17 or baby eagle.

I have a tuned up Norc 1911 in .45 and LOVE it! Not cheap to shoot factory stuff, but I just got all I need to reload for it and that should cost lots less. I absolutely love this gun and I shoot it better than all the glocks, sigs, springfields and rugers I've tried. I wanted a baby eagle too, but instead of dropping nearly $1000 on one pistol I bought this used 1911 which was totally polished and has an aftermarket trigger in it, plus a used Smith and Wesson 686 in 357 mag for exactly what I would have paid for the baby eagle.
I really like a heavier pistol like the baby eagle, but I'm much happier with two pistols instead of one in the end. Just my two cents... I would still really like to try out a b. eagle someday.

Very nice Sig. A couple of guys at my club own Sig P226's and absolutely love them. I tried both of them out and I was hooked on 9mm pistols. If I saw a good deal on a used one I'd probably consider it but the new ones I've seen have had prices over $1000, more expensive than the Baby Eagle.
