C7A1 lookalike rifle

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your email.

Colt Canada is reviewing the possibility of offering the C7 for sale to commercial markets. We are currently working with licensing and regulatory authorities in order to assess when this can be accomplished as well as reviewing the specific products which we are looking to offer. Colt Canada is expecting to make an announcement in this regard during the first part of the 2014 calendar year.

Regards,

Not everybody wants to pay Stag prices.

$1300 for the Stag 4R and $900 for the C79 Elcan. That is what a new C7A1 clone costs, even if you can do it cheaper it is not going to be much and it will still be a parts gun.
That said some people really like trying to figure out why their wacky used/lowest bidder mish mash parts rifle won't run like a factory rifle (or at all).

I would rather spend the couple hundred dollars and have a reliable rifle, with some resale value.

On a related anniversary note, were coming up on 70 years of Hi-Power service in the CAF, Wonder if someone plans of commemorating that. Maybe Inglis will make a CAF exclusive washing machine.

Seriously though if Colt Canada does make a Civi C7 they would really make me one happy person.

Wasn't there rules in place by the government that prevented the old company Diemaco selling to the public, wouldn't the same apply to Colt Canada? I can't see the government approving this.

The only real changes in recent past have been related to more openness towards sales of arms to civilian government departments and foreign military sales. However, there hasn't been movement on sales to general public.

The thing I don't get is how the government can stop an independent company from selling legal products to lawful citizens. If it were a crown corp maybe but Colt Canada/Colt LLC is a independent Corporation. The only thing I can see that would be able to do that is if their were conditions in the original contracts for the C7.

My guess since CC is even considering this is that it was just company policy or a non-official agreement with the Govt., but things might have changed in management with the re-structuring of Colt.

This is not uncommon in defence industry technologies not unique to Diemaco/Colt Canada. In a similar example, it would be akin to the sales of NVGs.

I guess Norinco builds an A2 type now the CQ-B. Before the snobs pipe in, I competed very well with an older CQ against Colt A2s. While it isn't my first choice, and I sold mine years ago (full disclosure), it's a good enough entry point.

I assume what had happened that Diemaco was offered the contract to produce and maintain small arms for the government indefinitely with the clause for no civilian sales. Most likely that expired when Colt Canada took over, if we had a Liberal government I have no doubt this would occur again. If we are actually offered this rifle and the anti's don't kick up a stink about it, we're lucky because of the current government we have. I wonder if Browning will produce a CF High power version if they were asked?

Are there no other budget 20" rifles besides bushmaster and the stag arms?

I can't seem to find anything in stock.

It the AR was not restricted, we would see lots of 20' AR options. unfortunately since barrel length is a non-issue now most people go with the shorter lengths like 16 inches. 20" rifles are not that common as a result, so Stag is the only regularely stocked 20" rifle that I know of. I actually built my current 20" rifle with a barrel from ATRS.
