Cabin fever solution....detail your next dream hunting rifle build.....

Well I have two, one still being machined, the other I own all the parts but haven't decided whether to "pull the trigger".

First is what I consider an "Expedition Rifle" for modern times. Satterlee full titanium Mauser action (everything's ti, unlike commercial titanium actions), drop box magazine and Rigby floorplate for 6 rounds down, custom Picatinny double square bridges, titanium rings, stainless Dodecagon profile #3 1-8" .284" McGowen barrel chambered in 7x57. Will come in about about 6lbs with a 20" barrel and nice walnut stock. Will have iron sights, not sure if I'll just do a hooded front and peep NECG rear on the rear picatinny bridge, or have a barrel mounted rear sight.

Second is a .257 Roberts long barrel (28"-30") about a #3 profile, on an Oberndorf Mauser action in superb walnut. Have a 30-32" Krieger 1/9" .257 blank on hand and a bunch of nice walnut blanks, so I think I'll make this one happen. Just booked a Lion hunt so it might have to wait a couple years so the wife doesn't go shopping for someone who hates hunting and the fine tools employed therein.

I have parts for one getting shipped to the smith in a month or so. It's nothing fancy, but a blueprint that has worked well in the past...

-LA LH Winchester M70 ChroMo .473 (all trued up, in and out)
-SS SM Shilen 6MM 1-8 blank (turned down to Winchester FW contour, finished at 22" & chambered for 6MM Remington)
-McMillan Hunter's EDGE
-PTG Bottom Metal
-S&K rings and bases

Mainly want this one for a long range coyote rig and the odd deer or varmint. Will be a carbon copy of my main hunting rifle, a 'o6.

How much for a Ti 98 copy there Ardent? That's a great idea for the 7x57.

Sounds sweet LBL, going to use a long 100 in the 6mm?

Don't forget to ask him about lead times too. :)

Actually, nevermind, it's one of those things in life where "if you have to ask...." :p

I have a Browning 1895 currently chambered in .30-06 that I'm thinking about a rebore to .338-06, .35 Whelen or 9.3x62. That should be it for 2013.

Yup. The 105 Amax will probably get the most use.

I might also switch out the PTG for Williams Orberndorf as that's what I've used in the past and do like it more. Just have too stop being a gram weeny with this build.

You're familiar with the smith's work. He knows his way around M70s...;)

That reminds me of one more project I forgot that also needs my attention. I bought a flatside Win Mod 95 action in pristine condition a while back, and decided on a 9.3 on a necked down 405 case. AAA fancy walnut stock and forend in classic 95 style, no checkering. I'm thinking of a Neidner skeleton steel buttplate, checkered and deep blued in classic shotgun style, but open to other interesting opinions. A friend of mine does an amazing job on highly colored case coloring for the action and lever, mirror polished and deep blued 24" straight tapered Bevan King barrel, maybe octagonal.........maybe round..........maybe octagonal.........maybe round.............opinions? I'll have the reamer ground with about a 20 deg shoulder in keeping with the era of cartridges and will stamp it 36 WCF. Should easily equal the 9.3X62 while keeping pressures within the limitation of the old 95, I built a similar rifle once in 35X303 AI once and it functioned flawlessly but never did get around to chronographing it or completely finishing it either. Sights will be a standard front hooded ramp and I'm thinking side mounted peep for the rear but may also go with a bolt mounted peep, again opinions?

Trued donor 700 action, early model with a Timney 2lb trigger. Badger style bolt knob with a Lilja barrel screwed on. Chambering will be 280AI (sammi spec) and will sit in a Macmillan hunters edge stock, have a Near alphaHunter one piece mount holding a 4-16x viper PST scope. Hopin to shoot either swift scirocco 2's or maybe the 139 GMX if I get te ambition to try mono metal bullets again.

Gun will get coated with Arma-coat or nitron blackened and will probably feature a HS precision DBM

Cooper M52 WC

Cooper western classic 280AI,
26" octagon barrel,
case colored rings and bases,
case colored grip cap,
checkered bolt knob,
Hand selected walnut stock

It shall be written.....It shall be done.....

That will be a thing of beauty!

I'm trying to find a used low price tikka to turn one into a 220 Swift. Although I may just have to buy one in 22-250 and shoot the barrel out of it then go that route because you just don't see low dollar used tikka's lol.

So what ya saying 1899, this would be a 366 Nitro Express 2.5" and not a 36 WCF? I designed the cartridge...........I get to name it.;)

That, or, it would also be neat to show up on a safari, uncase your old Winchester and open a box of these:
