sierra blitzking 32 & 39
horndy vmax 32 & 45, 45 soft point
nosler 40 gr nbt
berger makes some 35, 40 gr etc hollow points

no Xs, or Partitions. would be suprised to see them actually. If anything, I could see Barnes making a 35 gr TSXbt, but I wouldnt hold my breath :p

because, he can draw them in close with his electronic corn feeder

they'll never know Captain Deadly is hiding in the box blind!

My feelings exactly.
Yet another varmint round that has reinvented the wheel!
Why shoot anything with it?
22-250 is better, IMO of course.

well Kombi, enlighten us, IYO, why the 22-250 is better than the 204 Ruger :)
Gee, let's see.

  • Heaps more rifles chambered for it.
  • Factory ammo is plentiful and inexpensive.
  • Wider range of projectiles for .224 cal.
  • Can be loaded hot almost to 220 Swift but also backed off.
  • Heavier projectiles make it capable of taking larger game, even up to medium sized hogs if you place your shot.
I don't doubt the .204 is good.
Question is, is it good enough to bother?
The .22 Hornet, .222 Rem, .223 and .22-250 were all logical steps in cartridge evolution.
The .204 just seems like another hyped attempt to sell rifles.
Ruger and Hornady don't have to pay Remington rights when they make ammo or rifles for the 204 either.
Can you see my point?

I'm with Kombi (except on the part about shooting pigs with a 22, unless he meant groundhogs), the real question is what makes the 204 better than a 22 centerfire? I already own a 222 Rem, what advantage is there to the 204 that would make me want to switch?

selling rifles is what rifle companies do to stay alive. cant blame them for that

the 204 gives 22-250/220 swift type downrange drop/wind drift, with 222/223 recoil. hard to not call that innovative! ;)

Ok, Tod, for comparable loads, i.e. drift and drop, tell me what the recoil for the 204 and 22-250 are.

3 ft-lbs of recoil for the 204

6 ft-lbs in the 22-250

9 lb rigs, with 40 & 50 gr loads respectively. Both recoil mild, but you can spot your hits in the 204, same cant be said for the '250

Just because the manufacturers put it out there doesn't make it better. By this reasoning 358 Win, 307 Win and many others should be mainstream calibers.I've shot 5 rounds through my 222 and switched over to my buddies 22-250 and the only difference I noticed on the receiving end was a louder bang.

There was a thread a year ago about some guy taking out a moose with a 17 remington up north somewhere! BR great thread, how ya gonna top this one off (LOL)! People will always bite...........
