Canadian made "black" rifle

The su-16 would serve the purpose nicely if it was made of aluminium. At least for those that don’t care about caliber options and only want a blaster. But the price on current models is 2 high as it is.

T2 Upper / AR180 Lower :)

Leader T21

Interesting.
Seems like the Ausies did what we're trying to do right now but a ways back as a military design. Like they were trying to scale down further an AR180 if you read the description of the bolt face.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leader_Dynamics_Series_T2_MK5

They also moved the charging handle up to the handguard oddly ala MP5.
There can't be a simpler design for a semi auto rifle than the 180. Simple equals cheap!

Multi caliber is going to jack up price. 5.56mm is where it's at.
Agreed on the SU16 but it makes the AR180b look like a C6 by comparison lol
The SU16 feels like it's glued together. Almost like a toy Wal-Mart gun that you actually put live ammo in :S
Plus the price for them in Canada is high for what it is.
Make it out of stamped sheet metal/aluminum, ditch the silly "fold-in-half" gimmick nonsense, make it Canada and sell it for $1200 or under and then we're talking!
Thing is it's got curves. Harder to manufacturer, cost goes up.
Stamped sheet metal upper into a square ala AR180, couldn't get easier to produce.

Oh for sure, that's why I suggested it for a deluxe model. straight up AK stock for a basic model would be dirt cheap, and has a similar-ish shape to the AR180's

While there is definitely a variety in AK parts, the example I posted seems to use the most common mating format. (non-yugo AKs?)

Just looking at what's out there for folders, and there's far more selection for AK parts than the vz58. Not sure of any other guns with a significant after-market of folding stocks?

Standard AR stock would look out of place on a 180 IMO, and the folding stock adapters cost way too much to use on a gun where the buffer tube isn't needed

The AK stock selection isn't as as good as it looks at first glance, as even between standard Warsaw Pact AKMs of various makes, parts are not guaranteed to be fully interchangeable.

A component might physically fit but be unacceptably sloppy.

You've also got a different mounting system for fixed and folding stocks on a lot of them.

I'm also fairly certain that stocks designed for updated post Cold War AKs, like the AK-100 series or the FB Beryl, aren't compatible at all with their earlier counterparts.

It'd be best to stick to a particular mounting format.

I'm sitting here watching Nutnfancy's review of the AR180, and more and more I'm thinking this would be an incredible starting point for an absolutely amazing Canadian original black rifle. The faults of this rifle lie not in its basic design, but rather the build quality - crappy stamped metal, weak folding stock mechanism, crappy trigger, etc. Using the AR180 as a starting point, but using 2017 production capabilities, a builder could produce something absolutely phenomenal.

I'm excited about this idea :)

I'd definitely buy an improved version of this rifle! I like where this thread is going...

So you guys are thinking a Su 16 like this but aluminum?

That is what we are talking about but it’s just one design to look at for inspiration. Not sure there would be any cost savings to be had over the 180 at least in the upper and lower costs if the su-16 method of construction were used

So is the m+m DEAD ! Or is it coming at a higher price.Lots of over priced guns on the market. acr , xcr , Swiss arms , x95 , and so on ! I was very surprised to see 1400 for m+m , when its seem to good to be true it's usly is . I would still like to see this gun come to the Canadian market. Just my two cents worth ,

It's dead to me, and yes North Sylva will be importing them and the new retail is around $2000. I don't want to see it in Canada any more, I could never support a company that conducts business like they do.

If you compare what you get from a Norinco T97 or M4 then handle and shoot any of the rifles on your list they don't seem all that overpriced anymore. Of course I would have loved to get my ACR or SA for less money but if people are willing to pay over $1000 for a POS T97 how can you say those other rifles are overpriced. Price has to go up if the quality is higher than the cheapest gun on the market.

Who cares where it is made, as long as the quality is there

Because made in China or some other sweat shop somewhere employing child labor usually means QC rivaling BCL/NEA and that's not a good thing. It may be cheaper but sometimes it's worth paying a couple more dollars to have something made right, firearms are one of those items I'd rather pay a little more to get it right instead of wondering how many more rounds I get down the barrel before the thing turns into a grenade and removes one of my eyes.

OCCAM,,

Myself I prefer the the 180b idea with the improvements that have been mentioned. I was just trying to clarify the other ideas / suggestions and simply get a visual of the different concepts. I do admit it would be cool looking, if it looked like a su 16 with an ak twist but I agree about the cost.

I like the general direction this is going....

Canadian gun community are a fickle bunch, if this rifle is really going forward, it has to be done right not done cheap and ugly, otherwise the community will turn on you faster than sharks smelled blood in the water.
