I decided it was time for us lead lovers to have an UNDERTHEGUN inspired challenge of our own.

The challenge will be 1 ten shot group at 100 yards. Shot from a bench using only cast ammunition.

In the spirit of letting everybody play I'm going to have two different classes. So I'm looking for a

1.25" 10 shot group at 100 yards with a scoped rifle
2.5" 10 shot group at 100 yards using iron sights

Any caliber, any rifle, muzzle loaders can play too. You must cast and load the ammunition yourself.
Gas checks allowed

Only 1 ten shot group on the paper with nothing able to cover fliers.

Target must be shot after this challenge was posted.

Groups will be measured from outside edge to outside edge then subtract the diameter of the boolit. Must post a picture of the target with caliper measuring it. Date the target and write the group size on the target and caption the picture with the group size when you post it.

Must post picture of rifle, rest and ammunition used.
I would also like to see guys posting load information and what type of lead was used.
Since casting is heavily about saving money. Posting a price per round would be nice too.

The idea is to not just show case our toys and accomplishments. But also allow people to review what has worked for others so they can get good results too!

Happy shooting!
Jeremy

Dang! Wish I'd known of this thread sooner... I was out just yesterday (the 19th) shooting my own cast boulets in 3 old rifles (.303 Savage, .45-70 and 12.7x44R), but only fired 5-shot groups, as I was testing and chronographing some different loadings. I lost too much time setting up the chrony and targets at 100 yds :( This is a great idea, though, I can't wait to get back out to the range!

I'll load up some of my 160gr cast for my Rem 700 in 308 and give it a go. I'm out for iron sights as I can barely hold 2.5" groups at 50yds, forget 100yds (really bad eyes).

That's why I put one up for each! I'm really just trying to share ideas and techniques for cast bullets as well as generate interest.

Bragging rights are a bonus

Jeremy: Great Idea and I love that you spelled "Boolits" correctly.

I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics on this site. It would have been so simple if they just enabled the "Manage Attachments" function that this format has available. That eliminates Photobucket and things like that and allows you to post pics directly from My Pictures. I take literally hundreds of pics for these sites to show things clearly as it is the best way to convey an idea.

I will try to participate in your shoot. I just loaded my first batch of 314299's for my #4 Mk1 last night so we'll see how that goes, and I will post the results of that shoot on my ongoing thread over at Cast Boolits.com.

I will also be attempting this with a No4. My blessed long branch :D

I've been using a lee 312-185 mould but I measured the bore riding section the other day and it came in at .300
No damn good! Gotta upgrade real soon. I've got the 312-160 as well so I'm gonna switch over to that.

C309-150-F

I have just unpacked its 170 grain brother and cousin C309-160-R is at the post office.

I just got into casting last winter so I have spent a lot of time learning and gathering....now its time to start playing

I just got into casting last October. Newbie like you. I've got the lee 309-200gr, 312-160gr, 312-185gr molds. I'm about ready to upgrade to a higher quality one now.

Self sufficiency...I have as many checks as I want when I want them. With components being spotty you never know. That's why I got into teloding in the first place. Saving money was secondary.

Another benefit is I can vary the material thickness, which can have an affect on accuracy.

I can whip up 50 in about ten minutes....middle of winter project.

That's not too bada. I agree with the self sufficiency. Times being what they are. That's why I like to have a nice plinking load that requires no gas check.

What's your 30-30 load for tomorrow?

Well, didn't get to shoot a string of ten cause the kiddies were having way to much fun shooting.

Here is a 3 out of four at 50 yards with no support other than my knee...not bad for an old nearsighted man with iron sights

Not too shabby at all! I took the long branch out today along with my reloading equipment and 100 primed cases. Tried working up a load with unique and 312-160gr no gas check. Settled on 6.5gr for now giving me just under 2" groups at 25 yards consistently. I really need to slug my barrel and get a bigger boolit to feed this thing lol
