Its not the target as much as the splash. People were getting some of the jacket bouncing back and causing cuts so the club just made the rule "plated or lead".
Really that was all done and established before I started shooting there.
This get confusing for people. E/TMJ from BDX or Western is actually PLATED making it OK to shoot steel with.
Jacketed rounds (Normally denoted from the "J") is NOT allowed in your pistols when tagging steel. (Rifle is fine for now cause we are shooting paper)
In Short. FMJ = nono
TMJ from Canadian BDX = OK
TMJ from Wolf (yellow box) = OK
Basically any of the remanufactured ammo typically uses plated rounds. (But that is a rule of thumb and not absolute)
To make sure that it is plated, pull the bullet and cut into it with a pair of angle cutters. A jacket round will be thick and typically comes right off the lead. Plate is very thin and will almost mash into the lead. You can meet me on Thursday for a steel challenge if you want us to check it out for you.
Or just go see AmmoKate. She has 4 boxes at 50 rounds per box of wolf in stock. That is what I use on steel normally. You can pickup on Thursdays, but call ahead and get it reserved before it gets scooped up
Never tried it, never pulled it.
Quick call to the manufacturer will tell. Or again, we just pull the bullet and check.
But with it being Re manufactured TMJ I would bet money that you are safe..... I would only bet a dollar though
Stop by tomorrow at 5 and we will give you a definitive answer.
