Awesome vid, Hype-meister!
As a newbie to the competition world, I wanted to provide my observations and comments on the CQB course and its value to new and potentially experienced competitors. Hype's video showed the "graduation excercise" after two days of intense training, drilling and constructive (sometimes destructive) crticism - "Is that a norinco copy of an Israeli Tavor?, "put down your purse and rack that slide!". Lol. Still chuckling over other "amusing anecdotes" involving freezing temperatures, ,constipation and the resulting CasEvac.
Barney put on an awesome program that, from my perspective, takes new shooters through a gradual but thorough immersion into the competitive CQB course of fire. It starts with a review of gear, things to wear, things to bring and things to think about. This training course is perfect for trying things out and seeing what needs to change. Very useful to those who don't know where to start and what the pros and cons are of belts vs chest rigs vs plate carriers vs vests.

From there it moves to simple drills, preparing you for the several things you'll have to manage as part of running your equipment - sight alignment, breathing, trigger, mag changes and condition red status.
Once the basics are out of the way, its time to go out to range and "with safety's on, put your feet on the yellow line" to run through the different matches that are part of the CQB course of fire. The course was invaluable in getting new shooters exposed to the safety rules, match commands, squad rotations and mechanics of the match. I've got tons more to learn but feel that I've learned enough to not be intimidated and have signed up for the remaining CQB events at Borden.
The best part of the weekend was connecting with a group of similarly-minded guys/gal who are eager to learn and so willing to share with each other. If you are short equipment or break down, someone is always willing to help out - you might get made fun of for bringing a "norinco copy of a Tavor" but they'll still help you out
As klatham pointed out it was an honour training with some of the guys who've served, sacrificed and continue to serve.
Thanks Barney for a great learning weekend and the prime rib at Danny's did not dissapoint. I'll be back anytime my schedule (and wife) let me.
Also need to thank Chalkriver and Rick for their tireless efforts at keeping us safe from ourselves and those around us. Thanks!
