CFB Petawawa CQB Clinic 05-06 September 2015 - Debrief here!!

Well it was another great weekend of shooting ...Thanks again Barney as you never fail to run a good clinic .
I just installed windows 10 recently and while trying to download the pics but they are now gone in to the cyberworld somewhere ......damn !
If I recover them I will post what I have for pics.
It was really nice seeing a few familiar faces and making some new friends .
The heat was beating the crap out of me and I could have used a towel or two with me.
And I want one of those event tents now ...
Thanks Rick for helping out on Sunday !

I will mirror everyone's sentiments here.
Thanks to Barney for setting up a great clinic!
It was a fantastic one for a first timer, you really make it easy man!
Thanks to all the other instructors and special guests and regulars, it was really cool to meet and speak with you all. Thanks for all you do!
Looking forward to the next one in October.
Picked up some great info and will certainly modify and improve the setup for the next one.
Looking forward to the next one...I'm hooked!

Thanks to everyone who came out, it was cool to meet you all!
Until the next one!

Looking forward to the vid of that mad minute, that was the best!

"Myself and big Ken made it home by 1:35am jacked on red bulls. Almost got a nice buck with his chev. Thanks again Barney for a great clinic and being patient with the newbs. hypebucket...trade that pws in for a Daniel defense. They all ran flawless!!! Hahahahahahha. now on to getting ready for precision rifle!"

@JpThunder, he could also get a nice Norinco!
Shot it all day without any problems...dead center!
as for the pistol, I'm the problem there!

Another great clinic by Tactical Teacher hosted by the Petawawa Gun Club!

I had a great time seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new people. It was good to kick off the rust as I have only made it out to one CQB match so far this year and the championship is coming up soon!

Thanks to Tactical Teacher for putting these clinics on and providing a great opportunity to learn some skills and build a community.

Thanks to Chalk River for hosting the event and I was glad you had the opportunity to shoot this time. It was a lot of fun swapping stories.

Thanks to Rick for helping out on Sunday.

It was an honour to shoot with Andrew and B. You guys are an inspiration to us all.

Looking forward to the next event in October!

Awesome vid, Hype-meister!

As a newbie to the competition world, I wanted to provide my observations and comments on the CQB course and its value to new and potentially experienced competitors. Hype's video showed the "graduation excercise" after two days of intense training, drilling and constructive (sometimes destructive) crticism - "Is that a norinco copy of an Israeli Tavor?, "put down your purse and rack that slide!". Lol. Still chuckling over other "amusing anecdotes" involving freezing temperatures, ,constipation and the resulting CasEvac.

Barney put on an awesome program that, from my perspective, takes new shooters through a gradual but thorough immersion into the competitive CQB course of fire. It starts with a review of gear, things to wear, things to bring and things to think about. This training course is perfect for trying things out and seeing what needs to change. Very useful to those who don't know where to start and what the pros and cons are of belts vs chest rigs vs plate carriers vs vests.

From there it moves to simple drills, preparing you for the several things you'll have to manage as part of running your equipment - sight alignment, breathing, trigger, mag changes and condition red status.

Once the basics are out of the way, its time to go out to range and "with safety's on, put your feet on the yellow line" to run through the different matches that are part of the CQB course of fire. The course was invaluable in getting new shooters exposed to the safety rules, match commands, squad rotations and mechanics of the match. I've got tons more to learn but feel that I've learned enough to not be intimidated and have signed up for the remaining CQB events at Borden.

The best part of the weekend was connecting with a group of similarly-minded guys/gal who are eager to learn and so willing to share with each other. If you are short equipment or break down, someone is always willing to help out - you might get made fun of for bringing a "norinco copy of a Tavor" but they'll still help you out ;)

As klatham pointed out it was an honour training with some of the guys who've served, sacrificed and continue to serve.

Thanks Barney for a great learning weekend and the prime rib at Danny's did not dissapoint. I'll be back anytime my schedule (and wife) let me.
Also need to thank Chalkriver and Rick for their tireless efforts at keeping us safe from ourselves and those around us. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the pics and thoughts with us Rick! Great summary of what goes on in this clinic. One thing that amazed me was how quickly bonds/connections were created on day 1 (facilitated by Barney's never ending energy and humor of course) I've met some cool and crazy people, and intend on continuing interacting and asking questions, posting updates and maybe even get together at another clinic or match and see how we have all progressed since the Sun Fornicating weekend!

Tell him to flip his Norinco Ipad upside down.......

I figured out why it was flipped, the intake manifold on my laptop was decoupled from the flux capacitor and the bolt pin went in sideways, that made the electrons spin upside down... Gotta get me one of those piston driven *cough cough* tablets, those never break...

… sadness Schumy, sadness ...

Yeah had an awesome time despite the heat. Was great to meet everyone and I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Trying to get my videos sorted out onto dropbox but having problems. Expect the videos to be up tomorrow as they are big files and my upstream is slow.

In the meantime, a video from the June clinic. Hard to tell but we were shooting in the rain.
