CFB Petawawa PR Clinic/Match 09-10 May 2015 - Debrief here!

Military ranges are templated for certain calibers like 223 and 308. They don't let anyone shoot non-military cartridges like 270 or 7mm rem mag.

Oh, I didn't know that. I'll have to stick with .308 then I guess. :)

From the posting it seemed like anything larger than a 223 would be ok? I figured .338 lapua or a 50 bmg are military cartridges too and a lot more powerful than 7mm RM or 270 so might be ok.

Roll Call - who's going?

I'll be back with my M305. I am still stubbornly trying to get the most out of it, and this will be the test. I'll do better this time, but next time it will be the Savage FCP-K.

Ill be back this year (did the sept '13 clinic). With anyluck, ill back in time to whip up some ammo for this! Sounds like a few familiar faces will be back as well!

I think youre overestimating the size of Petawawa. The two hotels are literally 2 minutes apart, and there are no fewer than 6 pizza places within that gap...im not kidding (Dominos, Pizza Pizza, Pizza Hut, 2-4-1 Pizza, Petawawa Pizza, Grecos) among other fast food joints.

See if theres someone coming up looking to split a room too, make it a little cheaper.

Thanks for the input guys. Took the distances from the OP, I've never been to Petawawa, but it sounds like we won't be hurting for pizza!

There's a great little steak house to eat at. Their prime rib is great, if you can get some. We've ate all they got 2 years running

UPDATE .... We have been holding back some info about the upcoming clinic as we have lost access to Yankee range probably for the whole summer due to damage in the shooting gallery.
Previous to this happening I submitted a request for access to other ranges on base ( Bravo, Charlie and Delta ranges) and I am still waiting for an answer from Range Control.
I will keep everyone informed as best I can but sometimes the wheels grind pretty slow on base.
The other ranges I requested access to are longer than Yankee...600 meters as opposed to 600 yards on Yankee but they only have 12 lanes.
The only other ranges we have access to presently are Quebec ( 50 yard pistol/shotgun) and Echo which is only 100 yards.

As far as calibres that are allowed ...the base has certain calibres allowed for each range (no exceptions) .270 Win would have been acceptible on Yankee range only.
So when we get the required approval for the other ranges the only rifle calibres that will be allowed will be 5.56 , 303 , 308 , 7.62 x 39 , 7.62 x 54 , 338 Lapua

Thanks. That clears things up.

It is Barneys call on that ....its all depending on how fast we get approval for the other ranges .I have the support of range control but these types of requests can take awhile .

This is really sad news. I always look forward to the pr clinics, more so now with a match on the second day. How bad is the damage? I would volunteer to help in the repair, but I'm not sure how well received that help would be.

Am standing by.
Watching this thread closely.
Have some queries as to 6.5x55 cal. admissability, and how late can my internationally schedualed returning participant friends sign in for this match.
Appreciate all the behind the scene efforts being made on our behalf.

Seems pretty clear to me that 6.5X55 is not on that list, but it's interesting that they're all Martial rounds.

Running Milshoots I've found that I had to list the firearms allowed along with fairly extensive criteria, as when I didn't, someone always came along and would tell me that some military had certain scoped hunting rifles in their inventory and I therefore had to permit them to use the one they had.
