CFB Petawawa PR Clinic/Match 09-10 May 2015 - Debrief here!

Saturday night and the prime rib dinner at Danny's Steak House was absolutely amazing. I am grateful that I am not a vegetarian. Ha ha ha ha. How awesome was dinner eh?

I'm in the shacks cooling my heels and life is great. More debriefing tomorrow night after the PR match in the afternoon and also after my six hour drive back home.

Cheers, Barney.

Just got threw the door. A huge thanks to Barney and Morgan. With out your efforts none of it would be possible. Just as with every other clinic gained a ton of knowledge and had a super good time. Looking forward to Junes CQB!
Thanks as well to range control allowing use to use their range.

Just got back from Barney's clinic and I have to say it has been a great weekend. His new hybrid model is fun with the comp on the second day. Lots of great shooting and learning opportunities. Oh, and... Prime Rib!

Big thanks to Barney and Chalkriver for setting this up. You guys are the best. See you next time.

Just got in the door and settled in to watch the rest of the Flames/ Ducks game.
A big thanks to Barney and Morgan for another great clinic/competition.
We always manage to learn new things to up our game.
It's always fun seeing familiar faces and meeting new people.

Great weekend of shooting and gaining more knowledge from Barney ! It was nice to see some familiar faces again and meet some new ones.
Barney never fails to put on a great clinic and this year with the competition added to the next day confirmed it.
We dodged all the bad weather as its has rained steady since and we had no bugs so life was good .
Thanks again Barney !!
Hope to see a lot of you come out this year to the different events we have planned.

Please tell me that the shoot better stick had to get used at least once...

I really don't have the heart to use the "Shoot Better Stick" made of diamond willow found along the roads in Camp Wainwright. Maybe I can convince a couple of Wainwright CGNutters to put a couple of 5" lengths aside for me when I drive out west this Sep 2015. :)

I got home last night at 2300 and I was brain dead. It's been a super day of another fantastic weekend with the Petawawa GC. All I can say is I'm most grateful. It was tough to leave the Range Shack last night because of all the hand shaking and back slapping (I did not say butt slapping). I felt the love and I'm resisting showing my girlie side (I'm not Bruce Jenner) since emotions started welling up inside me. It was truly rewarding to watch all of you shooters socializing and networking in that moment. Totally priceless for me.

Things I'm grateful for:

* A super club Prez like Morgan to arrange all the ducks in order to have me here
* A helpful sentry like his daughter to sort out the curious visitors (we had one)
* A most eager Butts O and vendor and business CGN sponsor like 693Precision (Steve) to bring his goods AND help run the butts.
* Eager shooters most willing and open to learn new ideas / concepts at the Precision Match on Sunday
* Cooperative shooters to help with the setup and tear down procedures at the butts

I learned many things too:

* Ballistic calculators are nice, fun, and cool but trust the Saturday walk back/practice with your scope settings, not the high tech shzt.
* Thanks for lazing the back stop at 500 meter Snap Match, now I know for sure it's 22meters past the targets
* Often frustration gives way to humor, and levity is more likely to increase openness to the learning moment going on, don't miss it!
* Practical and inexpensive prizes are more fun to get and they take the "gaming" out of the entire competition process.

Okay, incoming text from my son... I'll add to this blog later...

Cheers and keep on helping the noooobs!

Barney

As other have mentioned, a big thank you to Barney and Morgan for keeping this thing on the rails despite the roadblocks being put up by RC and the like. It was great to get out with some familiar and like-minded faces to really challenge and push ourselves! It definitely revealed some strengths and weaknesses, especially with some gear selection (aka...ballistic calcs and my homemade rear-bags)...guess ill be hitting steve up soon!

Look forward to more shoots this summer (so long as 9er domestic approves...lol)!

This is such a beautiful sight!! I want to make one.
UPDATE ...We got bumped off Bravo range and we are now on Delta range instead . It is only 500 meters though compared to Bravo which has 600 meters .
Stop at the maingate and show photo ID to get onto base.
I did a recce of the range this afternoon and it looks good and the wind was coming straight from the rear.
The range shack is smaller than yankee range but good news is that in the butts there is a veiwing window so we can watch the splash of the rounds better .
The range shack has electricity and an emergency phone and two porta potties on site. 4 ft target s as well as the handheld fig 11 and 12,s.
Hungry is making up some other targets so we are good to go.

Maybe we can have a shore lunch ...lol

Thanks to Barney and Morgan for organizing this and everyone else for making a great weekend. First time shooting PR, lots of fun looking forward to next time.

Okay, I finally figured out how to cut and paste that set of results into MS Paint and then saved to my pictures as a Jpeg file. Take a look at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Don't you just love them prizes I handed out? :) At least you can put them prizes to use!

Have a look at the results and them transfer them to your tactical notebook. Let me know what you think!

Cheers and keep on helping them nooobs out there!

Thanks to everyone for making this weekend happen! There is a great bunch of people up there and it was nice to see some familiar and new faces out.

My big take aways from this weekend are:
1. 6 rounds is not enough to gather accurate dope (DUH!) This doesn't surprise me and I was happy to help get you new guys on paper and set for the match, that is why I came up there.

2. Not having good dope makes me shoot like a dope. I had OK groups just not in the right spot on the target and my score shows it

3. Spotting those light bullets is harder than the heavies. I struggled with wind calls and seeing where the bullet was hitting but it was good to learn and we finally got it sorted for the last match.

4. Running the butts was a great experience, thanks for working with me on my first time. You guys did great!

Anybody who wants databook pages send me an email 693precision (at) gmail (dot) com
I am unsure of the origins of all the pages I have and don't claim ownership or that I made them so I don't want to post them up and inadvertantly piss someone off.

Thanks again to everyone for a great weekend!

True to my life form; I am down at Women's College Hospital for a follow up Surgical Clinic with my wife. This time the bandages have to come off and hopefully no infections have taken root. In the meantime I get to have Dimsum with my wife. :)

So for the rest of you shooters , what are you taking away from this two day weekend experience? Maybe one day I can deliver a shooting camp like I've done out west. I miss them shooting camps.

I am back to work on the lifts this Friday. At that time I can speak to my supervisor about my spring schedule and summer weekends. My wife would rather that I get my D-Z license and deliver beer for Creemore Spring Brewery since their distribution center is only a few minutes away from us in South Georgian Bay. Then I will have weekends off. Another career switch maybe? I better learn to drink beer if I am aiming for them. One of the perks is .... guess what? :)

Did I ever tell you guys on the firing line about my application to work at the dope farm near Creemore , ON?

Cheers, Barney.
