CFB Petawawa PR Clinic/Match 09-10 May 2015 - Debrief here!

So, a simple common sense conversation about ballistics will result in no changes to the current edict?

Did you actually use the words common sense when dealing with military bureaucracy?

Remember that the military is part of the government, add to that the regimented approach and chain of command and tell me how common sense will ever be used?

Pretty much

No 260! Sure you can bring your 338 though :)

My shooting partner and I had to cancel on this event for similar reasons, as we are testing new rifles in 6mm Creedmoor. Does this calibre restriction apply only to particular ranges at CFB Petawawa? It looked like Yankee range would have been OK from previous posts.

Let's stop criticizing range control. At lest until they give us permission to shoot this weekend. For now they are a great group of people. My opinion might change if I'm at home doing paper work instead of making holes in paper in Pet this weekend!

WOOHOO....I just received an email letting me know we have access to B,C and D ranges now !! They are 12 lanes and 600 meters in length as opposed to Yankee range being 30 lanes and 600 yards.
I just sent in the request to use Bravo range this Sat and Sunday and will post on here when it is confirmed .

The only acceptable calibres allowed on Bravo are 22, 38, 9mm, 40cal , 303, 308 , 5.56, 7.62x 39, 7.62 x54R, 338 Lapua, NO EXCEPTIONS

Big thanks to Chalkriver! Your efforts are greatly appreciated. I stand by my previous post that range control are a good group of folks.

Make life simple, just get something .308. The templates are there weather we like them or not. No matter how nicely we ask and no matter what arguments we present we are still playing in their sand box and with their rules.

Yahoooo :dancingbanana:

We are a go and life is great. Now to organize all the targetry and butts gear. Easy peasy, done this many, many times.... :)

Cheers and happy thoughts!!

Im happy you guys got approval and the PR clinic is going to happen. I'm pissed that it's on Mother's Day and I'm going to miss it. I hope it rains and the bugs are the size of seagulls. Desert Eager not number 1. Ok I'm done with my rant. I hope Barney does another clinic or match at pet this year, they are a blast and sad to miss it. I wish you fellas warm weather, a dry range, normal size bugs, and lots of them. Muahahahaha

Have fun guys, I know I'm going to miss a good one. I've only heard great things about the gang out there.

I'll bring my 308 out to the next one! :)

Latest Update for 06 May 2015!

So here I am at my wife's post surgery bedside at Women's College Hospital and she is recovering well. Interpret that as not nauseous and thts a good thing. I am typing this up on the little iPhone screen. :). She's still tired but without pain. That's a good thing.

Bravo Range is located past Echo Range and some of you will remember how far out that drive is from Range Control. This means I expect you guys to bring sandwiches for lunch for both Saturday and Sunday. Bring coolers of ice water and other drinks. No Alcohol allowed on DND Ranges. Too bad! bring extra food for yourselves or your sniper partner and some extra snacks because there are people who don't read updates out there!

Hey Inwas a high school teacher for 30 years; I am used to teens who don't listen but this time someone will go hungry. Time to bring extra beef jerky. You will be surprised how long you can run on nuts and beef jerky. :dancingbanana:

Bring lots of extra water for both days. We are not going to be indoors for much time. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and bring extra sunscreen or sun protection, loose long sleeves. You will be wearing helmets in the butts so get used to looking goofy. Bring along some foam earplugs to wear in the butts , those cracking booolits make a racket overhead. Bring a light pair of work gloves for the butts to avoid slivers from the hand held wooden stick targets.

How's my typing so far? I cannot see much with this little half screen and glass keyboard on the iPhone.

Keep an eye on this three for more updates. I will be on and off this forum while I have a wireless signal here at the hospital. My wife is resting well right now. Don't tell her I had chili for lunch. That Timmy's chili is working its way through me now in post surgery recovery ward. Ha ha ha ha

Talk to you later. thanks.

Cheers, Barney.

Well, the weather has changed from 20-30mm of rain both days, to chance of t-storms and rain (40% 1-3mm each day)....things seem to be looking up!

Havent shot in 6+ months...can't wait!

It is with heavy heart that vviking calls in, .. that yes ... we have no banana's.

Can't make this one.

Somebody do me a favour ... send a couple cross-lane into somebody elses V-ring for me, so that I'll feel that I'm there in the moment with y'alls.

Shoot better! ... Shoot faster!.
"lights high, sights high"
Brett

If some of you guys have extra shooting bags would you mind bringing them for those of us that weren't able to get them in time?

Thx

693 Precision will probably have some for sale. Nice stuff.
I'm still using my old wool sock with aquarium rocks.

I wasn't able to get my gun set up for this weekend. Hopefully next one, I really enjoyed the last one aside from my M14 but I have that fixed now.

UPDATE ...We got bumped off Bravo range and we are now on Delta range instead . It is only 500 meters though compared to Bravo which has 600 meters .
Stop at the maingate and show photo ID to get onto base.
I did a recce of the range this afternoon and it looks good and the wind was coming straight from the rear.
The range shack is smaller than yankee range but good news is that in the butts there is a veiwing window so we can watch the splash of the rounds better .
The range shack has electricity and an emergency phone and two porta potties on site. 4 ft target s as well as the handheld fig 11 and 12,s.
Hungry is making up some other targets so we are good to go.

Maybe we can have a shore lunch ...lol
