I was thinking of something small in size... but really cheap to put together... wasn't sure how the mav 88 was since I've never fired one... say one with an 18.5 in barrel, put on the pistol grip and maybe tommy pump grip, a tac light and some more accessories?

I'd love to have a dlask though.. but too costly at the moment for me.

The Maverick 88 is a steal of a deal for a low $ shotgun. I replaced mine with a 500, only because I didn't like the location of the safety on the Maverick.

i had a 88 and i liked it but i have since sold it and got a 870 its a much better gun. if i knew then what i do now i would have never bought the 88 i would have just gone right for the rem 870, it was not to much more but it is a way better gun. well thats at lest what i think.

I just purchased a Norinco HP9-1 (rem 870 clone). haven't fired it yet, however, from what i've read (and I've read alot), it is on par if not better than the 870's. And all 870 parts are compatible with the HP9-1.
Was 450$ at P&D

On par with/maybe better than an express. The higher 870's are better guns, but more expensive.

But both the rem 870 and the norinco 870 clone are better then the 88.
i can say this because i have owned both the 88 and the 870 now i have never fired a 870 clone but i cant see it being much different then the ture 870.

These are way better than an express, no plastic or mim bits. Materials are easily on par with Wingmaster. As for the finish, well a Wingmaster might look better to you if you like purty polished/blued guns, but the parked finish on the Norc will last longer, won't rust nearly as easily and is much more practical in my opinion.

Check with Marstar for the best price.

A Remingtom Express synthetic is only $429, you could go with the real deal for less than many of the copies.

I'd get an HP9-1 from Marstar for $390 delivered. Good quality (no failures to feed or extract) and a good, ironclad warranty from Marstar. The 14" barrel is much handier in tight quarters than my 18.5" Mossberg 500A. The 14" barreled 870 is far more expensive (are they even available in Canada?) and a Dlask 14" barrel is an extra $300.

Here's mine stock.

And here's how it is now.

I've no budget... prehaps I should hold off and do it right. I don't need to buy now as I'm going to bmq in a few weeks, but when I come back it's something I'd love to get the mitts on.

i would use the rem 870 or its copy HP8, with some kinda light weather it be a full out sure fire of jus ta basic rail with light.
then i would use a single point sling mount and sling.
You did want somthing for "home defense" so it brakes down like this.
1 a gun that will work.
2a light to ID yout targets.
3a system to make sure the badguy cant use the gun against you.
Talk to redleg he can set you up with all of the above inc one of my single point sling mounts :)

Id go with the 870>I got my 870 with 18 inch barrel, mag extension(gun holds 6 plus 1)brand new at Lebaron for 390 tax in.Ive put 1000s of shell through it, slugs ,buckshot, birdshot, everything.Ive never had a feed problem, ejection problem, anything.Awesome gun!!!
