Chinese SKS type 56 ID FAQ.... feb 19, 2013

I know this is nearly a decade after initial, but I have some information not listed on the chart. I recently acquired a Chinese type 56 SKS. Facility stamp is not in the chart here but after some google-fu I found it is facility 946. Serial number is in the 1.5m range, it has the mid production barrel lug, the spike bayonet, the 2 piece gas tube, with the carrier with no lightening cut but still having the clip groove, the standard bolt, with the 2 side milled firing pin, and the milled trigger group. From what I've been able to figure after my reading I believe the manufacture year to be '70 or '71, but there seems to be a lot of grey area on that. Not sure if anyone will care, but why not submit it.

Further follow-up on this old thread. I too have a 1.5m serial number, believed to be manufactured in 1970, but only the receiver and stock numbers match. The triangle stamp is so light unfortunately that the factory numbers aren't visible. At some point this SKS has either seen hard use in, or been stored in, a damp environment as the stock has black stains around all metal parts, and the barrel & rear side sling has very fine pitting over much of it.
