Christmas Sale GNG Carcano Moschetto

I assume Wet Coast means BC.

I *might* prefer the fixed sight, it'd be interesting to know if the later Carbines retained the gain twist or went to the conventional twist, like supposedly the M41 has (I say this because this is what I read about the M41). Although I'm a bit leary of the Fair condition may be missing minor parts.

They are all from the same import, though some dealers say they are inspecting the rifles... But who knows?

Yeah, the ones in the photos look quite nice, it could just be CYA, it says Fair condition, unless it is a real beater no one can complain and many businesses work on volume.

Yes, I am in BC , and the shipping was $70. I am more of a collector than a shooter though, I am hoping that I get an earlier dated model (preferably WW1 era) just for the ambiance? ( if that makes sense)
Either way, a very reasonable price by today’s standards.

If I didn't already have a 1941 with adjustable sights, I'd be ordering the Marstar fixed sight version at $250 for sure. I'm still looking for a decent early moschetto though, so I went with GNG for the extra $38 in the hopes of getting an early date - all of which are adjustable sight models.

Early dates aren't better, but there's no point in having 2 of these from the same year and possibly same maker unless you are collecting that way on purpose.

Truthfully, I wish my 1941 were a fixed sight model so I could cover off more bases in just a couple rifles.

Usually quick, but they need to be working to get transfer reference numbers. Not sure if they have reopened after Christmas yet or not. Gng is closed until the 3rd.

Of course two weeks after my Carcano shows up from GNG I see the Marstar sale for $50 cheaper. I asked my wife if I could buy a third Carcano.... she didn't say no, but her expression told me I better not lol

Just order it anyway. Tell her it's an appreciating investment if you must, or like me, just don't tell her. She can't tell them apart anyway. If she sees the parcel, tell it's one of your buddy's rifles, ordered to your house so the wife wouldn't get mad at him - lol.

The marstar guns were only $39 cheaper, and supposedly gng hand selected their rifles from the importer. Marstar is a bigger volume dealer and likely has a wider range of conditions for sale - but that's just a guess. At least marstar is setting proper expectations saying the rifle you get may only be in fair condition.

It’s true, they are an investment. Every Milsurp I own has increased in value dramatically over the years.

not exactly

we are faced with the prospect of value's being reduced to zero for millions of rifles with the passing of c-21, pistol values are already gone as you can't sell them

don't buy them as an investment buy them because you want them

You should contact Marstar, their web sites say that the shipping costs are not accurate. Never paid more than $40 to BC.

Here's Gun Jesus' primer on the 8mm versions made for the Volksturm:

Short synopsis - they added a mauser style recoil bolt, re-bored original barrels, put a wooden loading platform in the mag, turning this gun into a single shot, and re-numbered the parts - it's likely the barrels were not married up to their original rifles during the conversion work.

Something on the order of 60,000 were made in early 1945.

Most of the 8mm Carcanos which have surfaced are not German conversions - they are post war modifications.

waiting for their brother to show up
