Civilian level combat training Alberta

Does any sort of firearms combat training program exist in Alberta that is available at a civilian level?

Yes it does. I'm qualified but am out of the game and not presently in AB.

I know a few guys who were PPCLI starting something up in AB. If you're keen shoot me a pm. I'll put you in touch.

Just got back from a vacation and saw this thread kind of went off lol.

To be more specific, i wasn't really looking for anything specific. I was just curious about the availability of firearms-combat-tactical kind of training, available to guys who don't work in military/LE. Move and shoot kind of stuff, body positioning, working with a team to infil/exfil areas, etc. Just more of firearms-applied kind of training rather than sitting on a bench poking little holes far away.

I see a fair bit of stuff coming out of the states where they are learning to move, shoot, and reload under pressure and I don't know of a whole lot of training that would be available.

Thanks for all the info so far - some really good stuff there that I will certainly look into.

Regarding Ukraine guy... I'm fairly certain if you go to Ukraine you'd have to actually look pretty hard to find any sort of combat actually going on - a lot of theatre there I think - but opinions are like #######s.

1- Get in shape
2- Practice the basic marksmanship
3- A handgun is for shooting your way to your rifle

^^^ good start if yer not already there

There are 2 very different approaches to "combat" ...one being the well rounded and entirely different sphere where one actively engages/pursues the enemy...soldiering and other

Civilian firearms and other armed activity is typically in the defensive role...altho the adage " strongest defence is often offence" rings true.
This is much more about mindset/tactics/preparedness/gear and weapon selection ......where not only training but research/reading and self edification is very important.

Using the basic weapons that will be available to you at the time needed....tons of practice with handling/drills/malfunction and clearance/reloading/drawing and reholstering.....really important...doing all of the former from unusual/difficult positions and circumstances.

A lot of this can be self taught...more importantly practiced and driven into muscle memory and competency....and the ethos of wolf over sheep can only be installed in ones own mind/soul.

Dead serious stuff....with the world slippin off its cracker an appropriate expenditure of ones time/efforts

Head over to Ukraine, if you last 6 months, come home & you'll be good to go here for anything that happens. Good luck.

The paperwork was onerous! Just saying….

Besides, I can’t tap dance and I’m too fat to fly….. old PPCLI saying…. Ha ha ha hah a

They would put you "in the rear with the gear", LOL

Lmao like the SCV you are? Pretty sure people running off to Ukraine were hoping for front line work.. had I gone, I would've gone a-wall if I didn't see combat. Come home and play MW2 or something.

If you expect training to be quick, or involve ammunition, perhaps skip the reserves, budgets being what they are. Phase Line Green is excellent, Earl's the real deal and also a good instructor - some who can do stuff themselves aren't good at teaching you how, Earl is. He also comes with a resume that underscores that.

1) Marksman ship can't tell the difference if it is combat or competition - marksmanship is marksmanship

2) Combat - what is combat? There are no magical way of putting a bullet into target. It is called marksmanship

3) "Tactical" - if it is referring to personal technique s- like all these youtubes out there on how to walk, how to cut the pie. If you can find it on youtubes, you already get 80% for free. Like watching cooking, tennis, biking..... youtubes. If you can't find on youtubes, most likely your Ex-special warfare instructors won't teach you either, because it is 1) irrelevant to civilian, or 2) because you will need to pass the selection process and attend the course to actually understand and execute some of these stuff. It is meaningless if dude is completely gassed out after 1 flight of stairway or sprinting 20m. If you really want a course on this, it should not be called a "shooting " course, it is a course on CQ technique, a part of a much larger curriculum

4) Well, 3) is pointless. most people cannot even line up properly at the super market without someone pointing at the check out counter. Everyone wants to do the fun part like airsoft, where the action happens after plenty of coffee. As soon as there are more than 1 person involved, they start hating each other and play lone rangers. This means any "meat" of any real "combat" "tactical" training cannot happen with random dudes signing up for these course. A football team with a 1 hour shooting lesson will be a way more effective combat team right off the bat than a bunch of gun guys who do not like working with other people and don't play team sports.

5) so just lets skip combat and tactical, and just learn what one can do - marksmanship.

If the intention is to be a professional in certain trades, there are courses for those specific trades. Yes, it should be a combination of "shooting/marksmanship" + the trade course. Anything that mixes marksmanship with the trade specific component is suspicious IMHO.

There are plenty of skills that can be learned solo that fit into tactical training. I don’t think OP I looking to join a fireteam; I think he just wants more tools in his tool kit

Green tips is right. Physical fitness, weapons handling and marksmanship are the foundations competency is built on.

He is also right about gun guys, egos and weirdness.

Everything GT said is bang on 100% correct.
Civilian tactical course are essential daddy day care, usually fun and almost always grossly unsafe, days at the range. Pretty much every course I've done (yes I admit to being in on the fad ages ago), I've seen absolutely atrocious safety and gun handling, doesn't matter if it was with Tac Response, Ken Hackathorn, or any of the dozens of others I've done. You always get a bunch of people that have zero business doing anything beyond standing still, by themselves, in a bullet proof structure, wanting to do the Snake Drill, or the Box Drill or any number of other "cool" things, and then they sweep you, punch rounds off accidently and so much more.
Focus on marksmanship and mental focus. Everything else comes loooooooongggggg after that.
