Colt Canada Information Thread

I tried to help them with that... They wanted none of it. They could do quite well in the civi market if they bumped up advertising, and knocked down pricing a titch.

I think if the c8 was at 1699 from the start I would have gotten one no questions asked. But they were not. So i bought a USA Colt instead. I was tempted though, bit not tempted enough to warrant paying at the time 1000$ more for a C8 made in canada than a 6920 m4 made in the USA.
Yah, yah, barrel this barrel that, mistical merlin magic, special forces danish military blah blah. 1000$ is a lot for a magical mystical camelot king arthur lady of the lake barrel.

What is the weight difference between the standard SA-15.7 upper, Vs the IUR upper?

I'm curious if the IUR is heavier and thus more "nose heavy" than the standard one?

Naked (no CH, sights, or BCG) my IUR upper is 1840 grams, and my 15.7 upper is 1705 grams. A triad will add about 115 grams, which makes the SA15.7 and IUR uppers a lot closer in weight at 1820g and 1840g respectively.

Obviously, you have to add sights, and maybe some rail covers to the IUR, and the configuration will depend on the user. The SA15.7 requires a rear sight. The configurations may differ, but the IUR will generally be heavier than the SA15.7 upper.

In terms of balance, the railed forend of the IUR extends approximately 3/4" past where the FSB on the SA15.7 ends, but the weight is distributed across the length of the rail. The Simon sleeve, FSB, and Triad on the SA15.7 shift the center of gravity farther forward than you would expect. Just balancing them in my hands, the SA without the Triad and IUR have almost the exact same balance point along the barrel. Red lines are approximate balance point as configured, blue line is balance point without the Triad attached.

DILLIGAF did a weight comparison here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...7-clones!-(and-C8-clones-too-I-guess-)/page13

Wow, even $200 feels a bit much, $300 is insane, but clearly someone's willing to pay because the last time I checked, the retailer only had one left. Glad I got a BCM one for $99 USD.

I wanted the CQB uppers. I have so many 14.5 or 16.5. That is the only thing has me not jumping at it. I was also wanting to buy a lower but they are not being sold separately. All be patent.

The BCM tri rail was made at my request along with the C8SFW upper to make them available to shooters who want these items but cannot get them due to the policies of Colt Canada. The unique Canadian configuration AR components are desirable and historically significant due to their widespread use since 9/11 so I felt it was only right to offer exact clones for the gun buying public - otherwise known as the tax payers that pay for all this in the first place. I hope you guys like them.

Does BCM make clones of the C8SFW 4-slot triad? I saw one in the product photos listed on their website, but there was no option when ordering.

I wouldn't mind paying approx. $100 for one of these clones... but they seem to be priced considerably higher here in Canada.

If you can find one.

Or am I missing something?

Thanks, because it only makes sense =)

Picked up a couple of these a while back - before they were brought in by the retailers. Thanks Larry for your efforts in bringing items like this to market. It IS pretty disappointing that it is still cheaper for a Canadian to source one of these from the US (especially in light of the fact that the genuine item is now available for sale in country at a markedly higher price point). For those on the fence, I've attached the following pics for your reference. Yes, the BCM logo is laser etched on the underside - but for what I paid versus the available alternatives, I'm happy to live with it. The quality of the machining and finish is more than decent and there does in fact appear to be a helicoil where the screw threads into. Replicating the actual look/dimensions of the retaining screw is also a nice touch.

Cheers,
hsld.
