Sharps your position has several false premise’s, it presumes the antique calibers were chosen intentionally over more powerful options, which they were not. It is similar to making fun of handicapped people for being handicapped. Nobody wants to use these calibers; they are all these people have to choose from thanks to being handicapped our laws. Criticising these choices is essentially criticising people for being law abiding citizens. Criticize the lawmakers and assume a long gun is not an option for all people, all the time.
Presuming that people are incompetent other than those who choose to tell their life’s story in a public forum is another mistake. I bet most people have stories similar to 38-55, just because they don’t post the details to gain the approval of a self professed expert & critic doesn’t mean people lack experience or credibility. This isn’t a knitting forum, CGN is full of competitive shooters, trappers and hunters and these people know their way around a gun and wild game. Its also full of scholars, professionals, pilot’s, soldiers and adrenalin junkies who don’t need a book brought to the best seller list by Oprah to understand being in the "now". Stating the need to dumb down something is insulting; since you value Oprah, perhaps you should pick up an offering from Dr Phil, and learn how to treat people.
Presuming all bears charge and kill or that it REQUIRES a high power rifle to kill them is another flaw. I am pretty sure prior to black badge courses or the 45-70 cartridge many a bear died on the muzzle end of a firearm that would be called inadequate today in the hands of people the apparent critic would call "unprepared". To say antiques will be made illegal due to a person being killed by a bear is like saying bear spray or bear bells will be made illegal for not working either? People coming to public forums exaggerating the use of antiques, implying carelessness and fabricating problems, will not do the antique class any good.
