Concerning M305

I have gathered that M305 is very decent rifle, but somehow falling a little short in quality control issue. People in this forum have commented that, when in comparison to M1A, M305's quality is inconsistent between shipments.
My question is, are the shortcomings of M305 something well known? I mean, are there specific areas of deficiency that I can correct after acquiring the rifle, before the problem become apparent, or even troublesome. If one could identify these shortcoming even before using it, and correct them, then wouldn't M305's quality be on par with M1A?
Of course, not knowing how much it would cost to fix the problems, I don't know how cost effective it would be.
One more thing is, between FORGED receiver of M305 and that of M1A's receiver (cast? right?), what is the biggest concern? One is absolutely superior to the other? More dangerous? Longevity issue?

I bought a M305 and I would not hesitate to buy another. Its a military rifle so the tolerances are going to be on the loose side. I have purchased Rooster33 Op Rod guide and navy front sight. I also have a fiberglass stock coming in shortly. In the future I might look as a set of springs. Let me tell you for the price they are selling it is one hell of a rifle.

Out of the box, 305s are ok. They respond to a bit of rework. Sometimes more than a bit. They all have potential. M1As use a lot of aftermarket parts now. Ultimately, I don't know if they are any better, and a new M1A costs a lot more than tuned 305, even if it has been rebarreled with a match grade barrel. The 305 is a better buy.

I guess I should mention this advice in my next DVD / Clinic:

Don't buy ONE ! Buy TWO of the darn things !

Keep one for spare parts, also !!!

Yes, they are worth buying RFN (right now).

hehehe
my collection should start arriving soon.... I only NEED 3 ... or was that 4 LOL
I can't wait to dive head first into my first m305 project... boy this is gonna be fun :D :p :D

Hungry ain't whistlin' 'Dixie'! (He's also not on our payroll ;)).

The M-14S (aka. 'M-305' aka. 'the Chinese battle rifle') is the best big-bore semi-automatic rifle bargain out there, bar none. Don't believe me? Ask on American military rifle web forums such as the Firing Line and their M-14 forums what they're most jealous about when it comes to Canadians and guns.

I can pretty much guarantee you their answer will be something along the lines of "$399 forged receiver M-14s ...!!!"

Someday you'll hear 'remember when you could get new M-14S rifles for under four hundred bucks?' This will rank right up there with $50 SMLE rifles, $99 un-issued Swedish Mausers, $199 un-issued M-24/47 Mausers, $599 Exc.+ Soviet Mosin-Nagant sniper rifles, $199 VG Garands ...

... you get the idea. We expect a massive rush on our incoming shipment (I have no firm ETA yet but they're on their way!) but don't worry: I'm sure CGN will find out about our shipment within hours - or even minutes! - of its arrival.

Until then here are a couple pics while we wait:

OK OK OK I'm getting one. I have to get my PAL first, but I am gonna take the test soon, so no problem there.
I just hope that I can do all those upgrades and mods you guys have recommended that I should do. I'm not that savvy with machines...

I took Hungry's advice and bought two. I figure you can't go wrong. Like Peter said, in time the M305's will be just a memory, and someday you'll be saying "I remember when......." . Just like the other examples Peter cited. You won't regret getting one.

Ok... then I'll get as many as possible. Wait until I have $400, then buy one, and wait again for $400, then buy another...
This could be something deliriously fun, or become my own undoing... Either way, I'll get to shoot, heh?
Now I gotta go and open a secret back account, one that my wife won't find out. ;)

Welcome to my world. Keep it cash and hidden somewhere in the house so it's not tracable, ie bankmail or recipts etc.

Won't work. My wife's clean freak. Turns the house upside down every Saturday. Plus, she watches CSI, so she's very thorough.
Besides...I got caught pulling a fast one on her so many times, I'm on a parole for life...

I got it okay, my gal has a damn shoe fetish LOL so we struck a deal a while back.... I do my best to keep the freezers full of game meat and for every pair of boots and shoes she buys that aren't work related (she's a paramedic) , the equivalent $$$ goes into my "toy" fund. Ya gotta love a gal who knows the word compromise hehehe and loves the game meat i put on the table as well. I'm gonna marry this one LOL :D ;)

Hahaha...now I don't feel alone in the world! I have to do the same thing to keep my wife out of the loop. That is why I deal in Money Orders only! I just built a gun room in the basement, not sure what would happen if she ever got in there!
