For the choke, I was thinking "rear naked".
It's positioned better for a "D'Arce choke"....

Hehe !! There's a reason the cal them " fool hens" !!
The terminology I used earlier, 'Gum Boot', was one I recall my Dad using. It was what he called the darker mature Spruce Grouse that may have been feeding on evergreen needles. His rule of thumb was that if you saw a 'ditch chicken' on the road and if it looked like a 'gum boot' standing there, that's likely what it would taste like. It wasn't necessarily what I found to always be the case but that was Dads take.
awesome pics.
ive been out south of gp a few times and have only seen 3 grouse. not sure what the numbers are like in the bush though as i was just road hunting/ sitting on cutlines

[/URL]They are a truely mental bird. Its amazing they have survived so long being so dumb. We had to remove a flower decoration from our big bay window at the back of the house. That damn flower killed many grouse one summer. I bet 10 grouse committed suicide hitting the bay window trying to get at that flower. I was able to eat three of them. I'd just listen for the "thud" then go outside and collect my prize off the ground.
You don't see ruffies as tame as in the OP tame where I live. What you see is more like a flash and a blur as they disappear.
In years of high numbers, they do have a traditional 'silly season' in early fall and supposedly it's nature's way of dispersing the population. But that's about the only time I've personally seen them do truly dumb things. I think hunting pressure is good for their collective IQs.
yep I doGreat pics, that would be fun to see. Guy doesn't know how lucky he was.
