COUNTERFEIT leupold scopes

What an absolute disgrace that the man feels that he can’t warn his fellow CGN’ers about a shifty company that defrauded him !

When I phoned the store to tell them, they said "awww sorry" and that's all they said. I'm not even that upset with the store really, the scope looks so real that possibly they didn't even know? I just want to warn others to be cautious if looking at used Leupolds.
(The scope came on a beautiful sako A3 mannlicher and yes, I presume about $500 of the price was the scope...... as long as the rifle isn't a counterfeit I guess that's life!!!)

I got scammed so I am posting this as a reminder/warning to other nutz to be careful when buying a used LEUPOLD scope. I wish I would have done my homework first, but didn't and now learned an expensive lesson.
The scope came on a used rifle that I purchased from a fairly new gun store (not sure if I am allowed to post the name here so I won't). Regardless, they are washing their hands of the issue and offering no compensation.
Anyways, the scope is a fake LEUPOLD VX3i 3.5 x 10 x 40 matte and is serial # 366708AC. I am giving the serial number, because after seeing the fake side by side with my genuine VX3, and noticing a few subtle differences, I phoned 1-800-LEUPOLD and talked to their technical services department where they told me that there are SEVERAL of these fakes in circulation with that exact serial number.......(Leupolds service was top notch by the way).
The rep told me that my first warning should have been that the scope has a mildot reticle, and Leupold has never put that reticle in that model of scope.
Anyways, I am now stuck with a counterfeit scope as I will not put anyone else thru this crappy feeling of being scammed. It will live on a .22 and make me mad every time I think of how much it cost me! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!
(on a side note, I am really curious who is building these counterfeits as they are done quite well, and the exterior quality looks better than many base model name brand scopes I have seen)

The store will not be able to create distance for them self re sale of used goods! Out them now!! They should have perform due diligence with regards to used products being sold under their banner! They are just as liable for the fake item!!!!!!

We have encountered two recent fakes that were purchased from reputable gun shops - both cases were used rifle/scope combos traded in to the shops, then re-sold as they arrived. Counter staff didn't catch the scopes were fake, so the scopes were re-sold unknowingly.

Refer to the list we posted above for what to look for - the fakes are close, but enough differences still set them apart from the real thing.

I forgot all about this thread.
I didn't start the thread to destroy the reputation of a store, (incase it was an honest mistake), but to warn others of the fake scopes that are out there, so they didn't also get burned like I did.
The final outcome was the store reimbursed me $300....and took the fake scope. The gun sales part of the store has since gone out of business. It was Eagle Industries in Vernon BC.

There was some warning story years ago about legit gun stores that sold a high dollar scope, only to have the customer return it within a few days under a 30 day return policy, but swapped in a counterfit...

One business who was apparently reputable got pinched on this "swap scam" as they then sold the high dollar box with counterfit scope to a customer later at full value and the customer figured it out and lost their marbles.

This is dangerous to business owners too. Even from a reputable business we should consider opening the box in the store and examining it or taking a snapshot of the scope with serial number at the cashiers till. I take pictures of reciepts as they are often honoured for warranty etc. and I can't be bothered to keep reciepts.

i had a cheap one on a marlin 795... it was fine until i shot a "good"scope and learned how to use a reticle... zoom was good, glass was clear.. it was worth every penny

I got scammed on a Zeiss rifle scope (counterfeit) from a dealer selling at the Orangeville , Ontario Gun Show.
The seller is a person who goes to gun shows in Ontario and from the Sarina area.
