Counterfeit Leupold Scopes

Just bought my second FAKE Reupold scope the other day. I'm mounting it on my dedicated M700 Earth pig gun which is a .223! Cost me $ 110 landed here. I would not tell anyone to rush out and buy one, but frankly when you drop $ 100ish on ANY Tasco or Bushnell, you cannot help but discover that it is made in China and the internals are exactly what you pay for.

So.... in keeping with my advice: Don't buy ONE, buy TWO of them.... I now have taken my own advice :D ha ha ha

Hey! For a hundred bucks, I've got a scope that will survive the rigors of groundhog hunting (always sunny weather). This scope does not need adjusting once I establish my 100 yard/m zero. AND finally, I've got a left side (portside) focus knob for the in close 30 to 50 yard shots, that focus knob is something I cannot find in a $ 100ish Bushy or Tasco. And I do have a Bushnell Elite 3200 10 x 40 Mildot that I bought for $ 200, this scope is on top of my sniper rig that I'm going to shoot at the NSCC Nationals this August... Honestly, I don't feel out gunned, not next to all those NightForce, US Optics and Mark4 mounted rigs! :ninja:

Buy what works for YOU and yer budget, and also your needs and your comfort level, oh yeah, also yer LCV (look cool value) :D

:nest:

Cheers,
Barney

Had the fun to boresight and then shoot a friend's 300 Win Mag with a cheap 3-9x40 scope on it.
First rounds went just OK. Then, following some windage and height adjustments, I noticed the target image beginning to blur more and more after each shot.
Reticle was still sharp but the targets at 100 meters were a fuzzy blob when I called foul.
I suppose some correcting elements had begun to creep forward under recoil.
Replaced it with a good old Bushnell Scopechief VI I had in my stash and everything went well.
I'm going to tear that thing apart and have a look at the remains just ''for fun and education''.
PP. :)

Wow, this from a moderator, LOLOL. Why not just buy a roll of paper towels and strip off the paper, mount the empty tube on your rifles and save yourself the grief - The cheapo knock-off's are not made to be a scope for use, they are made to fool the consumer. Not even close to Tasco type quality and I can buy a Tasco for half what you are paying for your purchases.

I have encountered a couple of other Leupold knock-offs. They appear almost identical to the older Vari X2, 3-9X40, with the thin line, gold lettering. Saw one that was marked LEOPOLD and another target model marked LEUPLOD. If you are in doubt, call 1-800-Leupold.

I have one on my 10/22 (that is a look alike, but not labled as a Leupold) and while the optics are poor, its fun to have the tactical dials (which incidentally do track very well) and the side parallax adjust. I wouldn't put one on anything of importance.

I guess if I could add anything it would be this. There are deals out there on scopes but you have to know what you are doing and what you are looking for. For example I have bought four scopes off E-BAY. Leupold VIII 4-16X40mm B&C reticle out of the States for $500. Millett 2009 TRS 4-16X56mm out of the states for $450. Just recently a used Bushnel 6500 4.5-30X50mm for $550 and a new Bushnell 6500 4.5-30X50mm Tactical for $800. In the past I have bought scopes from china, the bottom line they are cheap for a reason and they have no warranty for a reason. So there are deals out there you just have to look for them. And E-BAY is a good place to find good deals out of the states.

I could have bought a new $2300 Leupold from the states on ebay for $1100, but everyone says its illegal and I'll wind up regretting it. I can't understand how they justify the markup here in Canada.

It is illegal, and the best thing that will happen to you if the Yanks catch it is losing your scope and money.Read the Stickies. Mur

It is not illegal. And the exchange through E-BAY and (FRAUD ALERT) is safe for the seller and buyer if you receive a scope that is not waht was described you tell (FRAUD ALERT) and they get your money back. Also before you buy chack out the sellers rating if he has been selling scopes out of the states or where ever and has a sales rating of 99% its legit. Because everytime that seller makes a sale, the buyer leaves feedback when they receive the product i.e. a scope. Also most of the people selling out of the states ship the item marked ``gift`` so you don`t get stuck with a customs charge of approx.$40 mostly happens through UPS. I get most of the sellers to send it USPS international approx. $20 bucks shipping out of the states. BUT before I buy something off e-bay always research your local prices. I live in Red Deer, AB so the prices are usually out to lunch. I pretty much order everything online. Should have bought the Leupold. Anyway hope this helps some people that have a budget.

Read the stickies HAHAHAHA obviously someone who lives by rules that others like to make up. It is not illegal to buy a scope off E-BAY or from the states. I have personaly bought 15-20 scopes out of the states. If the Yanks catch it...HAHAHA I picture ``Yanks`` chasing a scope, they have more important things to catch.

IT IS ILLEGAL UNDER US LAW!!! Read the Stickies, you are advising people to commit an illegal act. Moderators? Mur

First of all you have to relax and take your panties out of that knot. Second of all I am not advising anyone to commit an illegal act. I am simply explaining my personal experience to help others make their own decisions. So before you go and tell the teacher on me sit back and take a breath. We are all here to give personal thought and experience.
Not stopping for 3seconds at the stop sign is illegal but I`m sure you`ve rolled through a few in your day. And last time i checked I live in CANADA. Also my job is to enforce federal law so if you were to get crack or people mailed to you from the states I might sweat a bit, but as for a scope...well the fact that my grass needs to be cut worries me more.

Hey,Dune don't get me wrong,I couldn't give a rats ass where you get your scopes from or whether you eventually get caught by the Yanks or not!The information you are giving out about scope export is incorrect and may get some other poor guy in trouble. Also discussion of illegal acts is a violation of site rules,it doesn't matter which side of the border's laws are broken. So just keep it to youself,eh. Mur

Hey Mur switch on your brain and go back and do some reading. I was not giving information on exporting or importing scopes, I was giving my personal experience with buying scopes off E-BAY. Like I said relax there are more important things to get all worked up over, plus we are all big boys on here and can make our own decisions.

Dune,

Mur is correct. It is illegal to export a wide variety of scopes out of the US without proper paperwork. The point of CGN is to assist members to understand the ever complex regulations we face. Despite your commentary, it is illegal. We may not like the regulations, and you may choose to not follow the export requirements out of the US. Just because they are sold on ebay does not make the exportable. At the end of the day, a wide variety of scopes and optics can not be legally exported out of the US with out approval from the US State Department.

Lets leave it at that. This is a sticky discussing fake leupolds....

Counterfit Leupold scopes from China?
I thought most( not all but most) Leupold scopes were made in China. Is this correct or are the guys on 6mmbr making it up?

So, if China can knock-off a Leupold scope, and you can not tell the difference with regards to quality, then, what does that say about the quality of Leupold Scopes made now-day???

KC friend, I have yet to witness one of these knock-offs at Bull Meadow or Homestead, during full bore target rifle or F-class comp's.

I think that says alot about scopes, that are subject to frequent recoil.
