CPC Leadership

true dat. But what I meant was that when you get away from urban areas, the NDP and LPC aren't as compatible as people think. Nudging rural NDP supporters/candidates away from the LPC and toward the CPC isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. As long as the CPC doesn't get to churchy.

Gotcha! But as we have seen, the small rural areas don’t have much sway even if some Dippers do swing our way.

Just noticed your location. You must hate your mayor!

My primary concern with Lewis is that the Liberals (and by extension, the media) will just focus on her stance on abortion. If you look at the interviews she's done, that's all the hosts want to talk about, and it'll take up all the oxygen in the room. That said, if it's her or another old white guy, the odds of her getting the 905 and, dare I even hope, one or two in the 416 might be better.

As for MacKay, yes he's a red Tory, but if he sees his party base being expanded by the thousands by pissed off firearms enthusiasts, I would expect that he would play the consummate politician and appease that base. He's not going to run on firearms reform, but I would trust that he'd repeal the OiC and he'd repeal C-71 in an omnibus budget bill, maybe make some changes to classifications, but no more than that. He would eat into a chunk of the Liberal seat count in Atlantic Canada. He's fluently bilingual, so that helps in QC. He would also eat Trudeau for lunch and dinner in a debate in any language.

I like O'Toole. He's known in Ontario, he's a 905 MP, retired military, tells it like it is, etc.. But he's just another old white guy. As much as I think he'd be the best PM of the group of them, I don't think he could win a general.

As a lifelong CPC member myself I can tell you that MacKay would be disaster for the party. He CANNOT speak french to save his life, he appears elitist to the majority of Canadians and his campaign has been a dumpster fire from the very start. Erin has all the qualities to win, he is decisive, honest, speaks decent french, from the 905, and has the best stances on policy including firearms! I supported O'Toole last time and he was the only candidate who wanted to scrap bill C-68. He spoke against the gun bans from the start and vowed to immediately repeal them. Unlike Leslyn Lewis he is a moderate on social issues and will support the rights and freedoms of ALL Canadians including women and the LGBTQ community. The CPC got clobbered on social issues, we can't elect another social conservative like Lewis! Erin has what it takes to win in a general election, he can win in urban Ontario and in the prairies. We need to unite behind him because we can't afford another Liberal mandate or we will be left with bolt action 22's in central storage!

John you and several other business owners had a meeting with Blair about a year of two ago. After the meeting none of the participants were willing to say what was discussed. Just out of curiosity, what was discussed? and why none of you were willing to comment then? Please respond otherwise we were always be left thinking that something secret was planned.

At the start of the meeting it was proposed that in order to have an honest open exchange of views would we all be willing to agree to keeping everything said as confidential. I thought that we had nothing to loose, everyone else must have thought the same as it was mutually agreed. It was all one sided, we made our views known, Blair told us nothing. Nothing was agreed in secret, we really had no bargaining power. As I suspected at the time, it was all a "done deal" but we had to try. Was it a waste of time, yes, would I do it again, yes, we have to try. Unless you can get the ear of a politition, the bureaucrats behind the scenes have it all planned, the ministers are only pawns, no different to ourselves. Have you ever watched "Yes Minister" it is sadly so true.

If I may make a suggestion for any future meetings, agree to keep it "in confidence" but as soon as you walk out the door, go public with it. They would do the same to you. I have no problem playing dirty pool with these creeps.

Lewis vote here as well. The liberals will shred any male white guy. From what I have seen, will be hard for them to shred Lewis on anything but her lack of experience. Love him or hate him, Trump wasn't a politician and look what he did for the USA.

Erin O Toole has won 3 elections in Ontario where the PM will be decided. He’s ex military. Former pilot. Former cabinet minister. He’s YOUNGER than Trudeau. He’s well known. The media likes him.

Lewis lost her only election. Has never spent a day in govt. Canada has never elected a woman despite other women running previously.

I can't do that, I am a man of my word, my word is my bond, my integrity is everything or I loose face with both sides of the fight, then I am worthless to the cause. Will I win, maybe not, but I can hold my head up high and look down at the bullies and liars with distain because they will also know who is truly honourable.

You have to keep your word

You shake hands on a deal and you have to go through with it.

You borrow money from a friend you have to pay them back

I agree with John

Next time say you can not agree to that .. Problem solved

Ok. But there was no reason you couldn't have kicked the bastard in the shin on the way out though!

:agree:

There were articles posted in one forum written in a paper by mackay supporting banning of assault weapons. Also if you see his statement on the ban he is sitting there just reading a statement from a prompter no emotion this guy will not sway votes.Otoole and lewis are the best options.Pesonally I feel that an educated woman with multiple degrees, a lawyer not a politician will be have a better chance as Trudeau enjoys a big advantage with female voters and this may help split that as well as making it harder for the media to go after her.Its not for nothing trudeau picked a woman as deputy by having a leader as a woman CPC one ups him our best chance for an upset

Sloan has about as good a chance of winning the leadership race or a general election as the Leafs have of winning the Cup this year or next.

I've been a party member for years and this is the first time I've had to sit here seriously questioning who I vote for.

beware mackay wrote an article in favor of banning assault weapons will never trust him...

If you're interested in Dr. Leslyn Lewis, take a look here:

During the last election, Trudeau won with a small geographical area with a high seat count. I think this candidate could speak to that constituency.

Or, maybe I'm just desperate enough to go with the long shot?

Faith based, anti-abortion, ### conversion bull#### is why the CPC lost the last election.

The abortion debate is over. No one under 60 will vote for someone who is openly anti abortion, and will allow that debate to be reopened.
You don't get to lock your kids up to pray away the ### Your religious rights end where anothers human rights begin.

The CPC needs to join the 21st century.
MacKay is a closer step in the right direction, and at least he will have a chance of getting elected.

We need to act fast, and be unified no matter who is chosen. Another election is closer than you think.
Yes, MacKay is holding his gun views out of anything too extreme so as to attract more liberals to jump, but has mentioned many times that he would reverse any laws the libs put in, and he leans pro choice, any modern party will not get in power without being pro choice. MacKay will win and will reverse the OIC and other bills!
