CPC Leadership

^^^ that is a position I can accept, sounds very grounded and reasonable to me.

I disagree. That statement is noteworthy for what it doesn't say. It raises a bunch of unanswered questions. Questions that if she doesn't answer clearly now the Liberals will answer for her. if she allows them to brand her as someone who would restrict access to abortion and/or reopen the debate ( and they will) she is a hard "no" to a large percentage of the electorate.

We are desperately in need of a strong CPC party. Please contact the prospective leadership candidates and ask what they plan to do with this Liberal OIC.

Thank you.
I came to Canada from a communist country, so it’s pretty easy for me to see what is going on and where this country is heading to. And, it’s frightening.

my wife's family also immigrated too Canada from a communist country and they also see where this country is heading. As soon as JT changed the laws so that it was hate speech and a crime to say anything bad about the muslim religion. The term "balkanization" is what is happening to Canada via the criminal party and the greens/dippers.
The only party that is at least trying hold on to the true identity of Canada, our very culture, is the conservatives. Any other party and Canada is doomed as a nation.
Mckay and otoole don't stand a friggen chance against Trudeau and the media he has paid for. Lewis will get my vote as I believe electing her sends a clear message that denounces the stereotypes laid upon the "typical conservative" by the left wing. We have a real chance of a majority government if we elect outside the box.

if we make a mistake by voting in the wrong CPC leader, our nation is truly doomed.

It doesn't matter what she says about abortion, the media will insinuate she secretly intends to criminalize abortion regardless, that, and a firehose of smears and slander at the faintest whiff she might beat Trudeau.

I tip my hat to you. It takes a truly principled man to give up his guns for a cause that has absolutely nothing to do with him.

You care more about your gun rights than you do the lives of 100 000 aborted babies (per year, every year, in Canada)?

You don't see it that way? You're blind to it? What kind of person would close their eyes to that reality?

Because they aren't babies and anyway I hate kids.

Here's a *reality* for you: backing an anti-choice candidate in 2020 is a fast-track to losing an election. And guess who's in charge then? The team that likes abortions AND hates guns.

Here's a reality for you: if she loses the leadership, Trudeau will win the next election; if she wins the leadership, Trudeau will have to run against her. (Think about that.)

Leslyn Lewis is the CPC's best chance at forming a government.

Really interesting thread. I've renewed my membership for a year. I read through all 63 pages and here's my thoughts.

Some members here like Leslyn Lewis and cite Trudeau and Trump as examples that inexperience can be an asset. I disagree based on the differences between them. Trudeau was born with a household name and into a rich family. He also had been an MP for 5 years before becoming liberal leader. Trump was a reality tv star and billionaire before running for president. He had "huge" :d name brand recognition and lots of influence due to his money. He also had a rough start to his presidency due to his inexperience. If you want to steal votes from the left, being a celebrity helps. Look at some of their MPs: Marc Garneau, Adam van Koeverden, Seamus O'Regan.

The leftist mainstream media will attack Leslyn. Think back to Condoleezza Rice, a woman of African descent that was Secretary of State for George W. Bush. They will find a way. Heck, they're probably already plotting something in the war room right now in case she does win. It takes a special mindset to make it in politics. It's something that has to be learned with experience. And sadly she's lacking just that.

I like Leslyn's policies, but her abortion platform is too complicated and will make an easy mark for her opponents. They will over simplify it and make a twisted claim that she's outright anti-abortion. She's also unproven in her policies. It easy for one to claim you're pro-gun. Trump touted support for firearms, then banned bump stocks. Even with a super majority he didn't repeal any gun control laws.

I'm leaning towards Erin O'Toole. We need a surge in Ontario and he's our best hope for that.

Maybe, but if she doesn't say she supports a woman's right to choose, she's already lost.

That ship has sailed, guy. Do you realise women born in 2002 are eligible to vote in the next federal election? They have never known a world where abortion was illegal (or even controversial). I'm not even talking about surgical abortions. These women are 30 years younger than Levonogestrel (the "morning after" pill). Believing you can roll back the clock on abortion is like believing you can roll back the clock on the birth control pill. Good luck. That battle is over. Your side lost. Get over it. People move toward *more* freedoms, not *fewer* freedoms. If you don't like abortions, don't get one. If you're not the dad, it's none of your business.

What kind of person am I? A realist. If Lewis doesn't clearly state she support's a woman's right to choose, it's game over.

More of my thoughts on this topic. There's mention of trying to steal votes from the far left. That sounds like a repeat of 2015 to me. A weakened NDP made for a strong liberal showing. I would prefer to have those two parties split their votes. It's no wonder the leftist mainstream media pour on the love for Jagmeet. Scheer increased the conservative seats by over a quarter and won the popular vote, while Jagmeet lost almost half of the NDP seats. Yet they brought out the knives for Scheer and gushed over Singh. There should have been calls for Singh's resignation before Scheer's. They need to suppress the NDP to keep their liberal handouts rolling.

Some express concern about not being able to elect "an old white guy". Well who are the contenders for POTUS? Who were the top two candidates for the supposedly "woke" Democrats? That's about as white and old as you can get! And I'm talking about really old, as in septenarians (70+). I think Biden is so old he's getting senile. O'Toole is 47, not really old in my books, and younger than Trudeau. The old white guy issue doesn't appear to be a concern, except for the far left, which we shouldn't be courting anyways.

To win an election you need to have a strong showing in Ontario and/or Quebec. Ontario is the most profitable and probable for a CPC seat gain, and we'll need to add 50+ overall to win a majority. Forget about Quebec. The bloc and Trudeau has a lock on that. At most we might pick up a handful of seats there. Atlantic Canada has always been red. There's not many seats there (32 total), so again, we'll gain at most a handful of seats. Toronto is all red and orange, so we're not going to make a dent there. O'Toole is a proven politician just outside of Toronto, where we need to make gains. I'm leaning towards O'Toole for PM.

They'll do that no matter who runs. But would you rather they added "rich white guy" and "career politician" to the list of attacks?

It's time to give someone different a shot.

Decide for yourself.

I got this email from her campaign today. I'd feel a lot more comfortable if she had ended with something like "However, I would never support any move to prevent or hinder a woman from accessing safe abortion services if that was her choice" The problem is she didn't! .......... Without that type of clear statement she would be Scheer all over again.

As it stands I think the Libs and the media would crucify her over this topic and she would be unlikely to poll even 30% in a general election. Hello Trudeau majority.

Dear ######XX,

I need to tell you a personal story.

I think when you know it you will understand why abortion is not a settled issue for me.

And I believe that even if you have a different opinion than me, you will understand my position a little better.

When I had just completed Law School and was starting my law career, articling on Bay street, I got pregnant.

From a career perspective this was the worst possible timing. Who would hire a law student walking around pregnant? How was I even going to study for and pass the bar exam?

The pressure to have an abortion was immense.

Friends went ahead and booked abortion consultations on my behalf.

People told me that I didn’t have a choice. It was my future, or my baby.

I need to be honest with you. In some sense they were right. For example, I was the only student not hired by the firm I was articling for, despite performing very well in my time there.

But I had something almost nobody else in my situation ever has: a supportive partner.

The most important person in my life stood by my side and helped me withstand the pressure.

And in the end, despite initial setbacks in my career, I have thrived, running my own law firm and getting incredible opportunities to teach in universities. And now I am running for leadership of our party.

My children have helped give me purpose and made me a better lawyer. They have shown me the power of choosing life.

And they are the reason I want to fight for all the women and girls who, like me, felt immense social social pressures to have an abortion.

I have been clear with my “No-Hidden Agenda” plan that:

I will fight for the vulnerable through banning the misogynistic practice of ###-selective abortions.
I will end abortion funding overseas and focus Canadian funding on actually helping women and girls overseas thrive.
I will criminalize coerced abortions.
And I will increase funding for pregnancy centres.
The last point is very important to me because I want women and girls all across Canada to have what I actually had: the support to choose life.

I want them to know that in this country you don’t have to choose between following your dreams, and having a family.

That’s what I’m fighting for.

And now you know why.

Sincerely,
Thank you for posting this letter from her.
This solidifies my choice to support Dr. Leslyn, she’s the right choice.
I did show this letter to my cousin and got one more supporter.
Cheers.

Just a reminder that Trudeau has stated that he is personally pro-life but that he supports a woman's right to choose. That's all they need to hear. If they hear the last part, they completely forget the first part.

Lewis is saying that, but in a really round-about way. Just state it clearly, already. Just give them the soundbite and end the speculating.

What else for you line up with the red menace on besides baby killing?

Carbon taxes? Unfettered immigration?

We are shopping for a conservative leader, not JT lite.

Was juggling between full 5 years or only one for that exact reason: <<will only pay for results>>. You just confirmed my thought

Thats not the case at all. Regressive thoughs on human/womans rights is the exact reason she's already lost. You do you though

Well, to each his own. While I am still undecided as to which candidate i will vote for, her avoidance of clearly stating her overall position on abortion has made her less likely to be my choice. Abortion isn't a make or break issue for me personally but I think it greatly effects whether a leader is electable in 21st century Canada.
