Beautiful, only thing i would personally change is the muzzle brake as i really dislike them but otherwise, wow.

Those of you that own atpials/dbals, do you also have the nvgs and nightime range access?

Xero for the win.
Thanks!

They're a PITA to find. If you're interested in one though, PM me and I might be able to source one for you.

And thank you for the rifle compliments, I saw yours on Reddit. Loved it immediately! The DBAL-A2 / A3 is kosher for SOPMOD builds as well. The SOPMOD program just labels it as the PEQ-15A to differentiate between the two.

Yes and yes!

Please share pics of the mk18/cqbr with the nod setup!
Very cool! Should have included the nvg in there!

(Sorry for including the Tavor in the thread!)

NV / IR gear list breakdown:

AR-15 has:
• L3 / Insight ATPIAL-C (Civilian PEQ-15, Visible Laser, IR Laser, IR Illuminator)
• Surefire M600V (V = Vampire, has the ability to blast white or IR light)

Tavor:
• DBAL-I2 9007 (IR Laser, IR Illuminator)

Crye Airframe Helmet:
• Ops-Core VAS Shroud (Allows NVG arms to attach to helmet)
• Norotos INVG Mount (The main arm thing. Allows to flip NOD up and out of the way, and collapse the NOD in close to helmet. Also lets you adjust height on face and distance NOD sits from face)
• Wilcox J-Arm (Connects the INVG mount to the NOD itself, lets you refine left/right placement of NOD so it's directly in front of eye. This unit lets you switch from left/right eye as well)
• PVS-14 Gen3 NOD OMNI IV spec (non-autogated, manual gain, automatic brightness adjust)
• Surefire M300V (V = Vampire, has the ability to blast white or IR light) w/ S&S M-AX Mount

Man, you should be putting NSFW tags on pics like that! Nice setups!

Do you prefer the DBAL or the PEQ? I'm currently toying with the idea of picking one of the two up, but have found too many mixed reviews to make a decision just yet.

This setup will not work.

You will need a Norotos dovetail mount to work with a Norotos INVG. Wilcox J-Arm will not put the NOD close enough to have the proper eye relief. Wonder why your NOD is soo far away look like you are staring through a straw, because the INVG is not meant to work with J-arm.

The DBAL-I2 with dual IR function is definitely the most cost effective (can find for $1400 CAD or so). I don't find myself using the visible laser all that often as a civilian shooter, it's cool but it's not necessary. We don't typically find ourselves needing to use a visible laser as a force multiplier or to designate targets as civilians. The ATPIAL-C will run you about $2,000 CAD, an actual ATPIAL (if you can find them) will run about $2800+. If you find an LA-5 you'll be well over $4,000.

Your assumption is incorrect.

I've been running this setup for a little over a year without issues. You cannot make blanket statements about fitment like this since everyone will have a slightly different head shape. For me, this worked fine.

That said, now that the Norotos DDA actually has horizontal adjustment, I have one of those units. You're correct in saying that the DDA brings the NOD closer to the face, but by no means is it anything like "looking through a straw" when using the Wilcox J-Arm.

WOW. That may change my plans a bit. I didn't realize they were THAT expensive.

By dual IR you mean the IR laser and the IR light in one unit?

.

I don't speak from assumption. If you have a regular mount and the INVG side by side, take a ruler out and you can tell the difference. Headship has nothing to do with it, unless eyeballs can pop out by an inch.

Anyways, anyone who wants to copy this setup should do a bit of google search. This issue had been talked about somewhere else, such as AR15.com It had been wondered by other people why the NOD is so far out there when they put a wilcox J-arm on an INVG.
