CQBR / Mk18 Mod1 Clone thread - Show us your clones!

First off, it's not that far-fetched (see below). Second, it would have to be reviewed by someone at the RCMP firearms lab and a determination made. If it is clearly documented that the barrel was cut after manufacture then it would most likely be declared prohib regardless of how insane that is.

Example #1:
A number of years ago the OPP (I think it was) had a number of pump action shotguns that they sold off to the public as surplus. Those shotguns had started life with 18" barrels and were cut down to 14" by police armourers. Some time after they sold them off to the public the RCMP determined that they were in fact prohibs due to the barrels being cut down (by agents of the crown, no less) and had to be turned in for destruction. I think they even wanted the entire gun, not just the barrels in question. Some people lost their shotguns over it and I am not sure how it all turned out in the end.

Example #2:
The CZ858 fiasco that resulted in the prohib declaration years after they were imported came about because the receivers were determined to have been 'converted autos'. What happened was the receivers were originally assembled into select fire rifles but never shipped anywhere by the OEM. They were then broken down back into spare parts and stored for some time. After this the OEM re-manufactured the receivers (by machining operations) to be semi only and built the semi 858's that came here. After much time the RCMP decided those rifles were converted autos because some time in the distant past they had existed as select fire rifles in storage. Essentially they were collections of parts on a shelf and never saw the light of day, but they were still evil full auto receivers and must be banned.

The basic lesson is to expect the stupidest, most unreasonable determination possible from the firearms lab, regardless of the actual circumstances.

Wow, that’s not only dumb and frustrating at the same time, lol! I have several 10.5 and 10.3” barrels, manufactured that way, so it’s not like I need any more, but for those who have trouble finding them, it would have been way easier to find a Colt 16” LE6920 barrel and have it cut to the right length, and be more or less be clone correct. I guess the OCD inside all of us is not only limited to financial barriers, but ridiculous laws as well.

You can cut a barrel to 457mm (17.99") before it becomes a prohib, not 18.5". 18.5" is the threshold for non-restricted/restricted for centerfire semi-autos.always

If you cut to less than 457mm it becomes a prohib, regardless of the classification of the firearm the barrel is on. As lil_juiced_coupe says, anything shorter than 457mm must be manufactured at that length to be legal. Even cutting a 12.5" barrel to 10" results in a prohib, despite the barrel being below the 457mm limit to start with.

Yes, it's retarded beyond description.

.... I’m always a half inch short

On a serious note. Is a colt LE6920 lower and upper acceptable in a mk18 build?

So my delta/tora bora clone is off to a good start!

I got incoming a kac ras, a surefire 6p and an eotech 551!

I now need a 14.5 upper, still researching if i need socom profile or gov, also need a redi-mag, colt n1 stock, lone star ordnance pistol grip, kac nt4 flash hider

Also have to make that 6p into a gangster grip, those kac rings they used i doubt very much i will be able to find one.

I love cloning!

M4A1 and M16a1 are the most common. But if I remember correctly even M4 marked lowers will work too. Just get LE6920 lowers marked M4 or M4A1 and there ya go. LMT lowers work too as well if memory is true or it could of been the upper. But LMT did have contracts on the MK18.

LMT had a contract with Crane for 10.5 MK18 uppers.
Now, it is a HOTLY contested issue on ARFcom about wether they were actually used in the wild by NSW or SOCOM.... but the LMT MK18 upper is a true MK18 upper IMHO.

yeah Chris Bartocci said the same thing, I forgot where I herd from another source that said some did make it to actual deployments, I could be wrong it might or may have been somewhere in South East Asia with one of the Seal Teams. Not sure that could be total BS can't remember.

I did a search of LMT's contract awards but unfortunately the data only goes back to 2008, so the CQBR would have been excluded ( that would be 2002-3 wish)

The lion share of LMT revenue is related to 40mm GL. And lots of small arms could be purchased by the DOD on behalf of foreign nations through the military assistance mechanism.

Lots of companies have "contracts" with the DOD, but the purchase may not be for the US forces at all. It may end up in places like Jordan, Saudi, iraq or others.
